He’s free, he’s over 30, and he once played in the top flight. Yes folks, you know it’s “transfer swoop” time again, and the Saddlers have today signed Brett Angell from 1st division Stockport.
Angell has scored over 150 goals in his career, and gives Sir Ray interesting options up front, with the front two probably being chosen from Rammell, Angell, Byfield and Hall, although Hall might play midfield.
The towering centre forward has had spells at Derby, Stockport, twice, and Southend, as well as loan stints at Albion, Sheffield United, Preston and Notts County, and was involved in big-money moves to Everton and Sunderland.
The Premiership clubs shelled out £500,000 and £600,000 respectively to secure his signature.
After returning to Stockport, Angell requested a move following the appointment of Andy Kilner and was loaned out last season scoring five goals in six games for Notts County and a further eight in nine starts for Second Division champions Preston.
