Bury 2 Walsall 0
It had to end sooner than later – after a perfect league start, Walsall’s 6th outing of the campaign ended in a 2-0 defeat at Bury, and by all accounts we were a bit lucky to keep them to two.
Saddlers fan Simon Turner commented on the message board: “Having gone to match today I was very disappointed with our performance. We played ok first half, but second half we were terrible, we couldnt string 2 paces together to save our lives and created nothing at all. I the second half Bury didnt give us anytime at all on the ball and started o get a bit physical, this didnt suit us at all. Bt a word of warning – we will have to do better than this against physical teams as we have to play a lot more in this division yet. We won’ always have time on the ball like we did in the first half. No single player performed well except Walker who made 2 outstanding saves in the first half and Byfield who showed some excellent touches and skill. We won nothing in midfield. The defence, especially full backs were caught out of position far too much
and Brightwell distribution was complete rubbish, my Granny could have passed to more Walsall players than he did.”
The writer on sports.com was blunt in his summing up: “This result sends a message out to the rest of the division that Walsall are far from invincible”
