Herivelto Back With a Bang

onenil @ 4:53 pm Tuesday 21 December 2004

Herivelto was quickly back into the swing of things at Bescot, netting a brace in a behind closed doors friendly today. The returning Brazilian winger signed today until the end of the season and then helped a Walsall side containing the likes of Mark Paston, Joe Broad, Simon Osborn and Daryl Taylor beat Team Bath 4-1. Bath, coached by former Saddlers skipper Andy Tillson, had led 1-0 at half time. However, a 20 yard volley from Nathan Jameson and a run and shot from Herivelto put Walsall 2-1 up. Leroy Williams added a third before Harry netted near the end.

“Herivelto will add to our attacking options,” said player-manager Paul Merson. “He is a flair player who is going to be an exciting addition to my team and give us an extra dimension in the hectic schedule of matches that lie ahead.”

“I have been told that he was a popular figure here during his previous spell with the club and he is looking forward to making a return. He has been let down by a few clubs in recent months, including Aberdeen, who were keen to sign him only for a change of circumstances to scupper the move, so their loss is our gain.”

“He scored twice in the practice game with Team Bath earlier today, he looks sharp and by the looks of it, will give us something different.”

Herivelto returns to Bescot

Brazilian winger Herivelto is back at Bescot for the rest of the season, the club has announced today. Reports of his return first surfaced on this site and in the Evening Mail over the weekend, with the club finally confirming the news today by premium rate text.

The Saddlers released Harry in January 2003 after just 33 appearances for the Saddlers. But that was in a higher league - and fans here on upthesaddlers.com seem generally positive about his reappearance, convinced he can offer Merse options not currently available.

Harry quit Greek club Ionikos in the summer, and was on trial in Aberdeen in the last few weeks - but their manager Jimmy Calderwood said the club did not have the funds to sign him.
