Merse wants Kinsella to coach

Paul Merson has hinted that he would like Mark Kinsella to take up a coaching role at Walsall next season.

Merson apparently told the Express & Star that he saw how much Kinsella had enjoyed looking after the reserves on Monday night and though that he might like to take up a job on the staff in the future.

After Merson had his fingers burned once with the appointment an inexperienced first team coach in the shape of Iffy Onoura, this is a surprising development indeed.

Fryatt to start on bench

Paul Merson has been told that Matt Fryatt will be playing a part in the England under 19 game tonight and, therefore, he does not intend to start him on Friday.

“Matty’s going to play half the England game,” Merson said to journalists. “Then he’ll have the travelling too so he’ll be on the bench on Friday.”

Of course, this could be Merson putting up a smoke screen around his plans, but not playing Fryatt after an International would be consistent with his actions in the past. Bristol City’s hot young striker Leroy Lita is far more likely to play, as he only got thirty minutes for the under 21s last night in the home game against Holland, scoring on his debut.

This would seem to make a change to a 4 4 1 1 more likely than ever, with Southampton loanee Andrew Surman being given a chance in his natural position on the wing and Leitao or Robinson as the lone striker, rather than the usual 4 3 1 2 with Robinson, D Taylor or Atieno and Leitao up front. That’s all assuming Leitao has recovered from the injury which lead to his substitution last week of course, something John Whitney is confident of.

Meanwhile, MK Dons last night warmed up for their forthcoming trip to Bescot by getting a shock (but, by all accounts, deserved) 4 – 1 win away at Bradford City, with ex Derby man Izale McCleod starring with two goals.
