Coventry and Colchester Men Chased

Richard Money has shown that he means business already – both in terms of his coaching style and the ambition he has for players to be brought in.

The current squad have already been shocked by the news that they are to report back for pre-season training on, wait for it, the 29th May, a full four weeks before most others will have. During the extra four weeks, they will be doing three days a week fitness training, prior to starting the “proper” pre-season, five days a week sessions.

Meanwhile, he has dropped hints that, amongst the players he has been looking at to replace his badly misfiring strike force from last season are:-

Colchester’s Tony Thorpe, Alun Armstrong from Rushden and Andy Morrell, who has been released by Coventry City.

Andy Morell has never really hit it off at Coventry, but did score 40 goals in 76 League starts at Wrexham, where he made his name and the Saddlers were supposedly interested in him in our Championship days.

Tony Thorpe is 32 now, but has a career record of 137 goals in 288 starts (130 sub appearances) for his 8 clubs. 31 year old Armstrong’s career has drifted a little in the last couple of years, due to injury. He made his name at Stockport and Middlesbrough.
