Little Chance of Getting Coventry Man

Andy Morrell’s agent, Lee Payne has confirmed that the player will be leaving the Ricoh Arena after being given permission to leave on a free transfer, despite having a year left on his Sky Blues contract, but says that Walsall’s chances of signing the player are slim.

He also dismissed the chances of Championship newcomers Southend, who joined the race for his signature last week, but are considered too far from his home in Leicestershire.

Payne insisted there was no shortage of interest in Morrell, the Express and Star revealed:

“There are a few options and Andy is taking his time,” said Payne. “His baby boy hasn’t been very well so that has been the first thing on his mind.

I don’t think he wants to move the length of the country, but there are quite a few clubs interested.
It looks like he will definitely be leaving Coventry and I think he will make some decisions in the next couple of weeks.”

Payne revealed that another Championship club had joined Southend in the chase and that some League One clubs are also interested and were close enough for the player to commute from his current home, making Walsall the outsiders in the race.

“There are a couple of Championship clubs and a couple from League One who are interested,” he said.
“I would like him to go to a Championship club but it will depend a lot on location, so we’ll just see what develops.”

The Bradford City Official Web Site has revealed, however, that one of Money’s captures so far, that of Martin Butler, was against the odds, in that the Division 1 outfit were chasing his signature too.
