Northampton Town vs Walsall Part One

An away trip to a team in the same Division was hardly going to be the most welcome of draws in the second round of the Cup, but to top it all, we are the ones running into the annual co-incidence of the same teams playing each other in the League and Cup consecutively. It’s the turn of the League tomorrow and, at least it’s a relatively short trip down the M6 to old rivals Northampton Town, home of the “Kinky Boots” movie.

The Saddlers will be missing Boertien and Dobson from defence and midfield respectively, with their knee injuries, but will be welcoming back Mark Bradley from International duty and also have loanee Peter Sweeney available after he joined from Sjoke City. The former Millwall man is insisting he’s here to impress, so the main question will be whether it’s going to be 4 4 2 or 4 5 1.

I’d expect the line up to be either:

Ince, Weston, Gerrard, Dann, Fox, Sonko, Bradley or Wrack, Sweeney, Demontagnac or Hall, Mooney, Ricketts.

As for the Cobblers, they will be missing Chris Doig (hamstring), Ian Henderson (knee) and Giles Coke (knee).

Northampton sit two places and one point below us in the table. They have won 4, drawn 1 and lost 3 of their home games, so they don’t have the most formidable of records. That compares with our away record of won 3, drawn 3 and lost 2, so this does have all the hallmarks of a draw.
