Old Boy Returns

Neil @ 11:28 am Tuesday 19 June 2012

The Saddlers have announced their first big signing of the Summer , although it is an unexpected one.

Richard O’Kelly has returned officially as Assistant Manager to Dean Smith.

O’Kelly has had a successful career as Assistant elsewhere and came to the Saddlers for a short period last season, on an unpaid basis, but this is now a proper appointment and will give Dean Smith some much needed help and experience on the touchline.

League Cup Draw

Neil @ 10:22 am Thursday 14 June 2012

It’s a home tie for the Saddlers in the first round of the League Cup, with what is, should we actually manage to put a squad together, a winnable game against League One rivals, Brentford.

It might be nice to actually get a run going in a Cup competition for a change and the tie, in the newly renamed Capital One Cup, will take place in week commencing the 13th August.

Sadler Off!

Neil @ 3:14 pm Friday 08 June 2012

Last year’s Player’s Player, Matt Sadler, has announced that he has accepted an offer from Crawley, rather than stay at the Saddlers.

Crawley’s ambition is matched by the resources being spent on the club, as witnessed by the appointment of Steve Coppell as Director of Football and Sean O’Driscoll as Manager and, it would seem, we were unable to match the terms they were offering.

Sadler, with his Premiership experience and his consistency last season, will be very, very difficult to replace.

Grof First To Sign

Neil @ 11:19 am Thursday 07 June 2012

The club have announced that Hungarian number 2 goalkeeper David Grof has become the first of the out of contract players to put pen to paper on a new deal.

Grof is considered to me extremely promising by most fans and this will be seen as very good news, as Dean Smith looks to assemble his squad for next season.

The deal is for another 12 months.
