AFC Wimbledon (H) 29th March, 3pm kick-off

Sadlers thoughts

I’ll tell you the problem they’ll have

Signed from non league will be amongst the lower earners.

New contract available for the manager for half a job done not for them

They’ll have got the hump.

Just refer to how “simple minded” footballers are after listening to Hayden White and how he had the hump about not earning what Monthe and DD were earning

It will have impacted them you can bet it

JJ seemed to want to pass the ball through players today.

I think next match we try a midfield of Stirk Chang and Hall

Seriously though what has happened to this team, I can’t believe that losing one player has made us this bad.

Zero passing through the midfield, full backs no longer getting crosses into the box, and I can’t remember the last time a player was played through on goal.

I’m genuinely lost why it’s so bad, and let’s not sugar coat it… it’s crap

An even scrappy first half and then I thought we applied some good pressure in the second. Wimbledon are very good defensively and it was tricky to break them down. Their goal was against the run of play. Our goal was a sublime effort and shut their gobby fans down. All us after that and just needed a slice of luck which we didn’t enjoy all game. Ref was clueless.

Had us down for a 1-1 at the start and that’s how it played out in a tight game as could be expected with two teams in the top 5. Lots of positives in the performance and hopefully we’ll kick on from here. Crowd were immense and supportive. Also thought Johnson did ok considering the service he had. That will be a valuable goal come the end of the season I think. UTS

Surprised Wimbledon didn’t sell out. Two hours up the Motorway/train and they’re right in the top 3 mix and two blocks behind the goal were half full at best.

Currently Vale sit in 3rd on Played 39, Points 67.

That’s an average of 1.71 points per game. There is no reason to believe that to finish third that would change for the remaining games.

Multiply that by 46 and you get 78.9…

79 points for promotion?

Puts us as needing just 8 more points from 7 games.

C’mon! it’s in the (onion) bag innit!

That equaliser should feel like a massive moment.

I still feel deflated, though. A draw v Wimbeldon in isolation is a decent point, but honestly, I’m not sure we will win again this season. I think we have forgotten how.

I think it’s more likely both were not training / living as full time footballers.

Stepping up to the intensity of league football is massive, and players off start to fatigue, and we all know how little Sadler rotated (partly due to his stubbornness, partly due to lack of options) when he had to, when the pitches were heavy and the calendar relentless

Still means we need at least 1 win from somewhere

Exactly what I was thinking when I read it.

Talking about your own opinion like it’s fact. :man_shrugging:

Also the pressure must be immense, promoted by January and the inevitable bad spell came. You are asking a lot of young players new to this sort of position to have a very strong mental aspect. I think that also explains why they start playing a bit better when we go behind because the pressure is off to a degree. Nothing to lose mentality.

I only noticed with Stephens in the first half, but in the second saw that nearly all their players were bulky. They do a lot of upper body work. It means they can push ,pull and swipe without too much effort, making it more surreptitious, and boy ,did the ref let them do it. He was letting them play by rugby rules.

Even when they were blatant about it, like their donkey of a 31 using both arms to pull Johnson down in the second half, he did nothing . Under the circumstances, I’m not too surprised we weren’t flowing.

For what it’s worth - my summary

Great crowd

Midfield worse than average and Jellis particularly is becoming so wasteful

Wombles bossed the first half and pressed us really well

Getting totally frustrated with Jamma’s antics - he’s becoming a liability with Refs

Much better second half but still wasteful

Fantastic free kick (well done TA)

Few good saves from Hornby but a couple of seriously dodgy clearances from back passes

Overall - happy with a point but could have been 3 if we had more of a forward threat…

I still can’t see where the next win is going to come from. We got nothing upfront! Definitely missing Williams throwing in the box his throws were like corners
