Not sure why you would feel sorry for the police. I personally know several dedicated football police liason officers, and have come into contact with many many others. The ones I know describe their role as a dream job. They get paid for travelling all over the place watching their favourite team, and even get drafted into England duty on a rotational basis. There is very little trouble at football these days, certainly far worse in most town centres than you get at football. Not sure when was the last time you were in Walsall town centre after dark, or even in broad daylight on a weekday afternoon when the “kids” are coming out of school, but give me a matchday anywhere
