Chesterfield (H) - Play-off 2nd Leg, Friday 16th May, 8pm

This is silly. The stadium is fine for noise. When full.

I was literally dumbstruck for a minute when I first walked in 5 mins before kick off - it was deafening and electric. Unbelievable.

It was so loud when chesterfield scored I didn’t realise they had.

The impact on the players must have been significant. Quite a few will never had experienced something like that before (as a home team).

I’m struggling to remember a similar fan experience here in a decade.

MS made well documented mistakes.

But some of the repeated hyperbole on here about him being our worst manager is really OTT.

1 Look at the stats
2 Look at the budget - mid table
3 Look at the players he has signed Lowe Chang Big Dave Williams Allen Hall Stirk Assiiimwe Adomah

All better than 90% of players we have had these last five years.

If his strength was sticking to a system it was also his weakness too - we all know that. Can he learn? Yes he just showed that albeit later than we needed.

But to say he is clueless is crazy. He’s just outsmarted one of the inform clubs in L2 over 2 games. We didn’t win 4-1 over 180 minutes by being lucky.

Cheers for that. Great video, goose bumps and great angle for the second goal. Adomah is an absolute hero.

Like the youtuber said weird game and such a great one to have been at.

Not surprised bats have exceptionally developed acoustics,

Great video - spotted myself in the Locker on that.

Didn’t see when Swifty picked up the mouse…I just saw it running down the left Chesterfield wing half way through the second half!

Agree with others, those goals gave me goosebumps watching them again. No matter what the score is at Wembley, that evening will have to go down as one of my favourite games (certainly the best home game since Northampton when we guaranteed survival in L1).

Good grief.

Thanks for sharing that. Hats off to this guy for making it.

Assuming that is all filmed simply on a mobile, it’s quite something to realise how far smartphone video technology has come in recent years. Looks superior resolution to our “official” video footage from only a few seasons ago.

I hesitate to suggest, but aren’t we missing a match thread?

Thought the season had finished😁

You wish!

It’s actually taken a few days to process Friday night. I was there at Stoke, I was there in Cardiff and for the Johnsons Paint, but I don’t think I have ever been so nervous for a game.

I thought we were excellent. I said before the game I thought it played to our strengths that we could soak up pressure and play on the break, and it did, but we were so much more aggressive than I, and probably Chesterfield, thought we would be. We could/should have scored in the first 15 minutes. They obviously had the better of the first half though and a couple of scares.

Second half though I actually think we did an absolute number on them. Considering they needed the goals we looked far more likely. Levi should have scored. Possibly twice. They were as good or better chances than anything they produced.

I have to say, if I were a Chesterfield fan, I’d be fuming with my own team and manager. They were so one dimensional. Passing it around the centre halfs like prime Barcelona, when you are 2 and even 3 nil down in a play off game. I’ll take that all day as a Walsall fan. For all their fans whinging about shit housing, Cook and his team did plenty of it before hand and during the game too. The Jamma/Banks confrontation looked, well, lets say pretty serious. Fair play to Cook for his comments post game though.

I find it hard to be sanctimonious about the pitch invasion(s). I wasn’t one of the people on the pitch, but that was always going to happen.

Harry Williams was my MOTM. I thought he completely diffused their threat for the most part, but it was hard to argue with Stirk too. It could just as easily have gone to Asiimwe, Gordon, Allen or Hall who were all incredible.

I’ve lost count how many times I have watched Adomah sit down three of their players :joy:

Onto Wembley! Tickets in the bag UTS

I kept thinking," They’re going to have to show more urgency soon." But they never did.

A friend of mine, whose Husband took their young sons to the game, has told me that her one Son said it was the best day of his life - and he’s gone to school this morning with his Walsall shirt on.
It’s what you love to hear.

Brilliant,

those are the kind of nights that capture a new generation of fans. I was wowed by the atmosphere myself, so for a young kid it must have been amazing.

I think that is the loudest I have heard Walsall fans at home, certainly since we have been at Bescot.

Totally agree, I’ve heard nothing like that at Bescot before. It was fantastic

Have to agree, were there for the other promotions and playoff games etc, but that is the loudest I’ve ever heard it at Bescott. Certainly from where I was at the back of block 3 in the lower.

It was everywhere. I don’t have a drink at home games as a rule now but needed a couple of liveners to calm the nerves Friday. Even outside it was deafening. I was trying to talk to someone I know and I couldn’t hear what they were saying.
