Crawley Town (H) EFL Cup, Tue 13th Aug, 7.45pm

Lets move on, and get ourselves out of this god awful league, onwards and upwards, league cup is crap anyway

Effort A plus but there needs to be more urgency and cutting edge when we have the ball. They work like bastards to get the ball back then get it and … stop?

The defending was woeful on the Jules/Sadler side. Free header for the second and the first a miscommunication with the keeper. Jules doesn’t look very good to me to be honest.

Lavery has to start for Gordon. All the hard work in the world means nothing when you can’t finish and you have a poor touch.

Positives though that Hardy looks a class player and Kinsella and Sinclair aren’t going to give anyone a free ride all season.

Glad to get that first defeat in this match not the league. Long season ahead and we can now concentrate on the serious stuff. And the tinpot trophy.

Might only be the EFL Coop but I’m still disappointed. So far, Played 3 Won 1, drawn 1 lost 1. For 4 Against 4. It’s going to be a long season and not in a good way by the looks of things

We were poor for large parts of the game, but people who booed us off at half time, you can ■■■■ off. ■■■■■■. Crawley were far superior over 90 mins. They exploited the space in between our midfield and CBs all game. Is it me or does Morais always have a good game against us?

We gave a good fist of it at the end, but all 3 goals were appalling goals to concede. Strikers arent so much the issue in my opinion, service to them is dire at times, especially the balls in. However we hit the bar, and their keeper made two very good saves to keep us out. Our penalty looked very dubious to me lol. As soon as they easily scored the second, Clarke made his changes, really i think he could have changed it half time.

Bates, Gordon, not good enough, again we played loads better with Hardy on the pitch. Jules was absolute guff. He will want to forget that performance.

Roberts - 6. I thought he could have stopped the cross for the first. Jules was also nowhere to be seen.
Jules - 4 at best. Out of position for the first goal, lost the ball several times, and was outmuscled on several occasions. Looked off the pace to be honest though
Clarke - 6.
Sadler - 6
Sinclair - 5/6. tried his hardest, put his foot in, but his passing was completely off today. Thought he struggled with their physical midfield.
Kinsella - 6 see above. But probably the better of the two.
Bates - 5 , Again, struggled to affect the game.
Norman - 6 - Switched off completely for their 3rd but thought he had a decent game offensively.
CCM - 7 Thought he was solid through out to be honest.

Gordon - 5. Unable to affect the game, it was clear he wasnt going to trap a bag of cement tonight.
Adebayo - 7 Nuisance. Plays so much better with the ball below his head, but he never wins
headers?

Hardy - 8 A threat in every sense, love to watch him drift across the front line.
Lavery - 8 As soon as he came on he just looked like the player Gordon should be, nice finish for his goal, he got lucky with this pen. Id start him on Saturday.
Mcdonald - 7 Had a go. No left foot. Crap in the air, has pace and can beat his man. Good option on the bench.

Concentrate on the league…

Great post but he rang the changes straight after the 2nd goal, no ■■■■■■■ about.

Hardy is class
Wes is a tricky winger
Lavery will start sat ahead of gordon

Dissapointed with the result. The changes obviously had a part play in that. Not the best performance. However, it is obvious this team doesn’t give up they kept fightining. Adebayo looked dangerous again a couple of goals and he will be hard to stop. Lavery looked lively and dangerous when he came on his confidence will be sky high now aswell with a brace off the bench

Hardy and Lavery should be nailed on starters Saturday!

Agree with a lot of that.
Except why is Norman taking all our dead balls - his delivery is shocking and so is his defending although he did put a shift in to be fair to him.
I think Saddler has struggled in both home games and looks off the pace. We cannot defend like that, completely static all ball watching.
Midfield was all similar - we need some creativity in their and players who can run at teams with the ball and beat a man - the 5-3-2 first half didn’t work again. We must improve defensively and I must admit I’m a little worried, there were lots of similarities tonight with last season !

Well, they weren’t very good.

They were really poor , but we don’t want to start slagging them off and start all the problems we had last season falling out with the team surely …

Disastrous defending for all 3 goals. Far better second half after the changes. Very pleased with Hardy and Lavery - both should start v Crewe. McDonald looked lively and dangerous too.

Poorish performance but our initial set up will not yield goals. The gap between the front two and our midfield was plain for all to see.Away from home that may not matter so much but at home it does and until the changes were made we were no real threat to a lively Crawley side.
One or two other points:
Scarr was really missed …their CF bossed us about and I doubt Scarr would have let him.
In Lavery and Hardy we have two players who may prove to be really good signings. They both need game time so I think we may only see them as substitutes for the time being.
Cockerill Mollet looks to a useful left back but not a wing back.
Anyway lets hope we can get something at Crewe. UTS

Actually quite enjoyed that. Crawley are probably the ‘best’ team we’ve played this season and looked excellent on the counter attack.

First-half performance was full of endeavour, but as others have pointed out we struggled massively to create anything from open play. Conceding from a set-piece a couple minutes into the second half was a chilling throwback to last season, but the reaction from Clarke and the team was excellent and we absolutely bossed the rest of the game. Could easily have forced extra-time with a bit more luck in the six yard box.

Lavery will be an excellent addition and looked like the perfect foil for Adebayo. Wouldn’t be surprised to see 5-3-2 ditched for the next home game…

Adebayo man of the match without a doubt. Won loads of headers, nuisance in the box. Worked his socks off, needs to back himself to shoot though. Whoever plays up front with him has to get closer to profit from the knock downs he keeps winning and the crosses he puts in. Looks a real handful to me. Hardy makes things tick going forward and opens up the play well. 4312 for me with Hardy behind the front two.

The defence was very disappointing - and certainly not up to the hype I’d read on here. An exciting last 20 minutes or so.

Well it hasn’t been this defence for a start? Pring and Scarr missing plus Bates who offers far less cover than Guthrie and Liddle

Until now the defence has deserved praise, particularly against Northampton.
