With a permanent signing, you can say that you’re tying one hand behind your back. Although loans offer greater flexibility, the winter transfer window is like kryptonite, making it practically impossible to say which option will be better.
Had we had Stuttle on a permanent contract, we would be paying him for nothing. You never know. But I cannot see any reason for Charlton to recall Kanu, so let’s stop talking about it.
Until it happens, then I’m sure you will find an acceptable excuse anyway?
Being realistic for a change why cant clubs like ours find permanent youngsters to fill the ‘striker’ role instead of continually taking on loans from clubs above us, all of whom can pick and chose if and when they take them back to sit on their home benches getting splinters. I know we are not alone in this perennial problem (see above examples) I’m quite sure there ‘are’ young players out there of quality ready to be plucked out of obscurity. Regrettably it’s easier to take on ready made youngsters from Championship clubs overstocked (because they can) with ‘up and comers’.
In my days there were creatures called ‘scouts’ for pro football clubs, now we have benches of assistant this and assistant that, all wearing track suits looking interested but of no real import to justify their fancy salaries, whilst the squad under their care continue to underperform whilst the erstwhile ‘manager’ cops the flack.
he needs more goals to be in with chance of re-call. In a way i hope there is a convo - because it’d mean he’d have had at least 12.
I knew you were “ancient”, but didn’t realise that you were posting from beyond the grave ![]()
Sits in the upper upper Tier
Not sure we’re underperforming at the minute either!
And we don’t have an assistant manager ![]()
No wins in 4? Certainly not performing or over-performing
Posted before the Cheltenham game, so 1 league defeat in 9 at that point. I’d argue most would say we’re not underperforming when looking at the season rather than last four games.
And we’re still top.
Agree though, hopefully MS and the coaches are able to get over this dip in form. Win tonight will hopefully give us/the fringe players a bit of confidence, and we can progress in the FA cup at the weekend.
Hopefully the below comes to fruition and the lad stays with us (put it in here as against today’s match thread)…
If it’s from a fans forum it must be true - everything on here is! ![]()
I’m sure the consensus on the Sjoke forum last season was that Lowe should stay with us. So not really something we should pay any attention to re Kanu
Party pooper
There were loads of Stoke fans that thought Lowe should stay with us last season.
That goal from Kanu today reminded me of when Lowe fired that goal in against Newport at home last season, and I thought then, he is definitely going back now. It’s just not going to go unnoticed and even if they don’t see him as an answer to their problems, I can just see them thinking he is another option for them.
Edit
I just noticed @cookyskid made the point in my first paragraph.
He played for two clubs this season, so he will probably stay unless friendly games are not considered official. Return to the Championship? It’s unlikely; he’s good, but not good enough to play there regularly. Of course loan to L1 club would be beneficial for him, but it’s also easy to completely derail his development. And that would be third club in one season, which is prohibited.
The Charlton manager is only thinking about 1 thing - his job.
He couldn’t care less about Kanu’s development. His bosses also only care first and foremost about survival in the Championship. If they feel Kanu could contribute a goal or 2 even off the bench which I think he could then I am afraid he is gone.
Hoping for an unbeaten Christmas for Charlton with them comfortably mid table by January 10th. May keep him in that scenario.
And that’s a problem. Even if he thinks Kanu isn’t ready for the Championship, he may well want to protect himself by being seen to have explored the possibility. It would be less of a short/medium term risk to him than letting Kanu develop here.
I don’t think relegation is a real threat to them. So, maximising selling value is probably still the main goal.
He didn’t even think he was ready for League 1 last season.
They thought more of Mbick who is on loan at Colchester than Kanu last year
