Get him fit and this will be an excellent signing, saying that didn’t we try and get Cook fit haha
He’ll need a bit of work on conditioning but potentially a great signing. The little I saw of him as a holding midfielder at Leamington he was tidy and did really well to offer defenders a better angle for a pass.
Also think he could be a great mentor for Alfie Bates, who seems a similar player and very talented.
I don’t think Kinsella has grown any pubes yet, never mind a beard
Happy days. Good pedigree coming up through United and Liverpool’s youth teams so theres definitely a player in there. Also hasn’t played underneath the Championship in his time in England, albeit a brief spell at his mates local team in Telford before he moved abroad to his last team.
I just hope he doesn’t turn out like Russell Martin did. Very similar sort of pedigree.
Sorry mate, not at all in my opinion bud
We haven’t had many as decorated at the club as Guthrie
By decorated - i mean come through top class youth set ups and play in competitive leagues and cups (Champions League etc)
To be fair I said a similar pedigree, ie making a load of appearances in the premier league and a similar age. Also forgetting Martin played at international level too where as Guthrie hasn’t.
I just hope I don’t get my hopes up again for it all to come crashing down because I’m really really happy about this signing like I was with Martin.
Cook was a different type of “trying to get fit” because we didn’t have anything left in the budget to be buying kits from Jacamo.
Good signing IMO - welcome to the Saddlers Danny…
Excellent.
This is a coup imo, guy was playing regularly at championship level as recently as 2017. Mind you last signing I said this about was Russell Martin…!
From memory he plays a similar style to Joe Edwards so that’s his replacement.
Might shake a few extra beer tokens out the tin and pop down the bookies now.
Delighted that Guthrie has signed. Massive coup for a league 2 side with a ■■■■ budget.
Feel with him, Sinclair and Kinsella though there isn’t much threat from midfield though.
That’s a good point as Guthrie hasn’t scored many goals in his career at all so he certainly isn’t an attacking midfielder.
You can always be flexible with the two upfront though, dosen’t have to be two strikers. If you have Ozzy type player as the number 10 (Hardy or another signing) hopefully they’ll chip in with the goals.
Please let him be better than the last Guthrie we had. Then again we could plant a tree on the pitch and it would be better.
Thought of this, but at least he’s from Shrewsbury so perhaps the closer to home thing won’t be an issue?
Not that I’m condoning being from Shrewsbury.
Guthrie does have the ability to be an attacking midfielder, he adapted his game to that of a more defensive role during Newcastle’s promotion season in 09/10 when he was playing in a midfield three that had Kevin Nolan scoring for fun. I reckon a fit Danny Guthrie could be very useful as an attacking mid in league 2.
Anything would be better than that absolute carthorse we had for 2 seasons.
I know it’s undisclosed, but any idea how long he’s signed for?
