I was there, but all I remember was the own goal and thinking ‘Oh that’s an auspicious start (sarcasm of course)and probably typical of our luck’… and also my dad moaning because we were crammed in and it was hot and he couldn’t see properly, but then he always had a moan after home games ‘I’m never going up there again’ he’d say, but was always there the following game or season opener. He was always critical of Buckley even if he’d scored 2 or 3 cuz he wasn’t as good as Tony Richards. Hes been gone 28yrs and oh what I wouldnt give to be standing next to him listening to him moan. It was our thing to do together rain or shine - Walsall home games and the rare but occasional away trip.
