Gillingham (H) Tuesday 11th Feb, 7.45pm

Virgil Van Dyke has just commented on Liverpool’s position in the league -

"We have put ourselves in a solid position. We all know we have so many difficult games coming up. We need everyone at their best.

"Everyone should be disappointed on the last part of this game but from tomorrow the focus will be on recovery.

"The main thing for us is to completely focus on ourselves, and as fans as well, don’t look at what others are doing and writing, just focus on us.

“Every game will be tough until the end of the season, then we will see at the end of the road if it is enough. But we have put ourselves in a good position and we have to keep fighting.”

The mentality has to be the same for us too, we are in a similar situation (obviously the difference in levels taken into account). All of the remaining games are going to be difficult as no team will roll over for us to tickle their bellies. Let’s hope the team can just focus game to game and fight as hard as they can, it might be enough…it might not be enough, we’ve no god given right to go up it’s going to be a huge scrap…#UTS

What I don’t get in regards to Sadler is we always kept it simple. Like for like subs and all that jazz. The continuity was a real plus side a few months ago. Looked like great coaching with players slotting in seemlessley.

I can take dropping points to an absolute pinger like they scored, absolutley unreal strike, but when he’s doing nonsense like shoving Harrison midfield (when he was looking dangerous upfront) my head falls off. Truly bizzarre. It’s absolute rubbish.

That’s not to mention the team selection. He’s gotta fudge Gordon off or at least to the bench, he was absoutley useless, couldn’t trap a bag of cement and could win a header if he had a gun pointed at him. If we are gonna be a launch it side just play the god damn players we have signed that play that way. There is no reason for him to trying wacky crap like Harrison in midfield.

Yes. Rookie manager who has crafted a relatively naive team with no leaders, really. Noone to challenge him. So for all the talk of a lovely culture, it feels pretty safe for him. It means that when we go behind we look lost, and he looks lost, increasingly. The like for like subs option (Earing and Hall on for Lakin and Jellis, or Uncs for Barratt) now appears to have become get as many strikers as possible on the pitch if we are are chasing games, and to hell with the structure. Or to hell with players who can play the structure naturally. I struggle to see a way out. He, and the team, currently feel stuck.

Can’t agree here. No leaders? Think Jamille Matt may disagree. Donervan Daniels behind the scenes.
We have gone behind plenty of times. Notts County away. Full of character and leaders that day. MK at home recently first game without Lowe went a goal behind playing poorly dragged ourselves level and hammered them. Crewe at home conceded late and got ourselves the equaliser.
We have dropped well below our standards the last few games and Sadler and the team have to show the character and leadership they have shown all season to drag us out of the rut.
The like for like subs aren’t available in midfield currently. Poor window or will the 2 new lads come in and contribute? None of us know yet.

We’ve got plenty of leaders - all on the pitch, not off it!!
Sadler always looks lost. When you sit by the dugout, you get a great insight into how manager’s operate.
Quiet and thoughtful is our Mat. Inspirational? Not his strongest point!

Or puzzled and confused.

Wow, we got some mind readers in the OAP stand then. What’s the minimum distance required to tune into Mat Sadler’s thoughts during a match?

Catch 22 - if we keep on losing, it would be the wrong time to bring new players into a team that is low on confidence. But if we win, then Sadler will not want to change a winning team.

Interesting, who would you have down as a leader from the 11 who started Tuesday?
For me I’d say definitely one, at a push two

There is no true one definition of leader though.
Matt is visibly and audibly leading and cajoling.
Jellis never gives in, never stops runnning and always looks for the ball. That is leading by example.
For 3 months or so Williams never put a foot wrong and won everything in the air and on the ground. The other players fed off that inspiration.
Leaders do also have poor games and lose form so you can have a half a dozen of them and still lose a match.
I do agree though that as this run has progressed despite all the talk of midfield and attacking deficiencies I would love an old head at the back. DD’s form has been questioned for a while even when fit but I think he would be first name on the team sheet on Saturday if he was available.

I was close to the pitch Tuesday and we are definitely a quiet management and team. Not ma words said by anyone and no encouragement or rollicking from the sidelines except the odd Sadler clap

We are a brilliant but often overly toxic fan base, probs mirrors us yam yams in general, salt of the earth but punch ya lights out
