Maher should be coming on with 20 mins left for jellis or lakin to get his game time and to progress. I’d be very surprised if he wasn’t on the bench moving forward. Williams and the sub keeper goes for me
Lowe will start, I think.
Rest Williams in favour of Weir (due to the Taylor Allen situation).
Hornby needs to be one of the seven, in my opinion.
My only concern with Lowe and Cleary is if they do well they will either go back or be sent to league one in January.
Hopefully we’re run away leaders and people will be lining up to join us plus the players themselves will wanna stay and win a promotion/title. Buzzing to see how we get on today.
I might be wrong but with Cleary already appearing for WBA this season, I don’t think you can play for three clubs in a season, if my memory is right it means he can only be returned to Albion and be considered for a first team place, can’t see that happening
Weir and Williams omitted from the squad vs Tranmere.
Presumably Weir, Williams and any of the unused substitutes from today’s game will start on Tuesday.
The problem on Tuesday is that neither loan forward can play, Josh is carrying a strain and Matt played 90 minutes today. Albert and RAM upfront?
I’d forgotten that!
Looks like Matt and Josh up front then…
Nathan Lowe was an unused sub for Stoke in their EFL Cup game so should be available for selection?
That’s my understanding also.
I think Williams out on loan once we are happy with Cover would be great for him. Ideally National League rather than Ireland or NLN or NLS.
As for goalkeeping if it’s name 8 use 5 subs it would be crazy to not name a GK !
If The Priest is out for a month and DD still weeks away, I’m not sure sending one of our remaining four centre backs on loan is wise to be honest.
I agree. Farq has not completed a full season in his career due to injuries, Donervan has had a number of injuries that take longer to heal in your 30s and Dave has already had one red card in his Walsall career and can get caught if the ball is played behind him. I like Harry a lot but Weir being left footed helps with cover for both Taylor Allen and Liam Gordon. If Evan can take his chance, I expect this to be the starting eleven, before too long:
You would start Weir over Gordon
Not yet. However Liam Gordon needs to learn how to cross a football.
I think that LG is a cracking player and I don’t think that Weir is ready yet. However, I do think that he has a good delivery and I think that he can cover for Taylor Allen if he ventures forward.
Gordon needs competition because he needs to improve his assists. International break will give Evan an opportunity and it’s up to him to step up and make himself undroppable.
It’s not just about crossing either.
Sometimes the ball just needs cutting back.L. Gordon is very good at running past defenders and can get to the byline. He did it yesterday and instead of pulling it back smashed it into the six yard box hoping for a touch of anyone.
Think about the goal Jellis scored v Exeter, Earing pulled the ball back. I’m sure Lakin would start to look more of a threat too. That’s what we needed to do more of yesterday rather than floating easy to defend balls into the box. I don’t think we use L. Gordon’s threat of how good he is at running down the line well enough.
Agree on this if Gordon could whip a decent ball in he wouldn’t be here He’s great in every other way.
He could adapt, or the coaching staff could teach him to adapt if he really can’t improve his crossing (although at least he can get them above knee height now) Get him running down to the byline more often, he is great at it. We have two strikers, one runs across the near post, one in the center, then you have midfielders to cut the ball back to. In theory at least.
Yesterday especially the last half hour, it was put as many floaty crosses in as possible, but it is easy to defend unless you put a peach of a cross in, and even then with no whip on the ball the forward has to put all the power in it (Matt can do this to be fair)
It was the same last season, Hutchinson was free arriving in the box loads of times but the ball was rarely played back to him.
His defending is also dodgy at times. I’m sure for their goal yesterday he headed a free header straight up in the air rather than getting it cleared. Others messed up in that goal too but Gordon could and should have done a lot better.
We probably made more defensive mistakes for their goal (four?) than they did all game.
