I think this is why Adomah doesn’t play out wide often, unless we need a goal.
I actually think he looks far better out wide than he does up front, but yes, ideally it would be a wide position without so much defensive responsibility.
Still a useful player to have around to fill in gaps when needed though, which is what he has turned out to be for us.
This signing is positive. I hope he’ll be a good signing, but to me signing a player in a position that isn’t a priority to strengthen shows that it’ll have been thought about and isn’t rushed, it also means that if we’re presumably spending ££ in this part of the team then the priorities - midfield and upfront aren’t constrained financially within reason.
It is probably fair to say that currently the biggest wages are going to players on the bench; DD, Priest and DJ. We definitely need to cut a couple of those and free up funds to tie down the youngsters that are performing so well.
It’s an answer we will never get but I would love to know are we operating with a higher playing budget under Trivela or has it just been better spent ? Also have we factored in January and left money in the bank to see us through any potential hiccups !
We’ll never know the exact playing budget, but you can find staff wages in the accounts.
Those have gone up significantly (about 35% from memory but I could be wrong) and I can’t imagine they’re spending that much on extra catering staff, shop assistants and youth coaches.
I find it interesting to compare to similar clubs. Last time I checked, our staff costs were similar to Mansfield (before their promotion), which surprised me.
This signing now makes sense. Sign a bloke called Nathan hoping that the less wised up end of the fanbase don’t notice that the other one has left. Masterstroke .
