Nathan Lowe signs (Aug 2024)

I have a sneaky feeling we will buy him only if we get promoted

Nathan Lowe are we a one man team ? After looking at results up to yet and his contribution of goals that have gained us points yes he has made a vital contribution to the amazing position we find ourselves in at the moment .but we are certainly not a one man team .quick calculations from me and I stand to be corrected as I’m not the greatest at this .Nathan and his goals have been directly responsible for 8pts we’re he was the only scorer for us 2 wins and two draws . In 3 other games his goals were the difference between a draw and a win withe other Walsall players also on the score sheet but Nathan with the deciding goal therefore instead of 3 pts we had 9pts so I suppose you could in theory credit him with 6 pts here and 8 pts making a total 14 points .not far of the lead we’ve opened up at the top of the table and coincidentally the number of league goals he’s scored for us .the stats guys on here will I know shoot this full of holes I know .but without Nathan and another forward say only scoring 7 maybe 8 goals in his place I don’t think we would be that far away from the top 3 in the division just without the big lead we have at the moment. So life without Lowe might not be so bad after all.:pray::pray::pray:please stay Nath .for the sake of our nerves and I love watching a class young player with huge potential.

I’m not sure football works in such a simplistic way.

You forgot his assists also, 4 of those. And even when he isn’t directly involved in a goal, he is such a clever player, his movement off the ball has without doubt also contributed.

That said, I think we would get over the line now even without him. Not a one man team but he has been a vital cog. As you said, we would probably still have been in the pack, but not looking down on them.

Yes I did infer that. it was just a Quick look at his direct goals contribution like you say there are many variables ifs and buts.not going to go there don’t want to.:joy:but you are correct.

My thoughts too.

We’re more than 1 or 2 star players. Dont want him to leave though

I think people need to consider the impacts of losing DJ, Freddie then multiply by 10.

Only saving grace would be

  1. this team problem solves well
  2. Jamma is firing
  3. trivella might replace him

Like it or not, success this year will be equally shared between Walsall’s squad and Stoke U21s. The transfer value of Lowe and Simpkin dwarfs that of our own players, even including Stirk.

A bigger problem to me than Premier League U21s playing against us in FL Trophy

Potential

I think your biggest problem at the moment is Stirk keeps turning in M.O.T.M performances every week .

Our biggest problem is he keeps remembering his log in username and password

Lol a big impact yes, but this is a team effort - i would argue those 2 are replaceable- i wouldnt want to though

The last few efforts have failed

Matt and Steven’s were crocked no way suitable to plug the DJ gap !

Josh Gordon is limited. That’s keeping it positive in comparison to Freddie.

I’d argue Lowe with his all round game is simply irreplaceable. Maybe because we haven’t had someone like him for well over a decade.

Taking a loan player is always a risk, especially youngsters with little or no experience, The credit, if we are successful, will go to the squad, and the coaching staff who have identified and developed these players. Im sure Aston Villa aren’t taking any credit for Stockports promotion. Loans take place across Europe, in the highest leagues, so I’m not sure what your point is.

I get this. I’m old. Times change. Premier League teams have loans.
I just find the fact that, as with many other teams, our genuinely outstanding players aren’t actually ours is, to say the least, disconcerting.
Clearly it’s not cheating because it’s allowed. But the fact that we are only top of the league by miles is because this year we got better loans than previously is not the same our own lads getting promotion as in the days of Richards, Taylor, Buckley and Kelly.
Loving this season. Just hope fans have some great songs in appreciation of the Potters if we make L1.
Oh, and of course the weird repugnance to the presence of U21s in the FL Trophy alongside the unbounded love for the ā€˜indestuctable’ Nathan Lowe seems a wee bit odd to me.

The thing is twelve months ago the team was more reliant on Draper than we are on Lowe today , two seasons ago , Barnwells love child had mortgage his neck brace to DJ and we were completely built around one plan and one player , if Lowe had only been a bit player in the squad this year I still believe the way we play we would have found ways to score just like we did under DD.

I can’t see Stoke recalling Lowe, mind I said the same twelve months ago about Freddie, but if they do we have the best defence in the league , a midfield that I believe could hold its own in league one without question and is the best we’ve had in a decade . This is a squad that will evolve overtime but if we are following a North American model of building teams and utilizing a money ball approach then we’re in for a few glorious years in the sun and loan players will come and go.

Call me a happy clapper but this is the best I have felt about the club in my lifetime (or at least since the milk cup run) and it’s down to the ownership model we now find ourselves part off. I have well and truly drunk the cool aid that Ben B and Jordan brought to WFC. In twelve months time I see us solidifying in league one competing with the likes of Lincoln , Wrexham , Stockport , Wigan on even terms as we move forward with real potential . Lowe will be a distant memory by then but don’t fear we will still have the catering to moan about , the kit supplier will still be crap but Ben Sadler will be working on it.

(BTW Does anyone else feel the urge to cheer on Oldham so we can get back to wet Tuesday nights at Oldham in February at some point in the future, I think the world would be back in sync when that game is back on the fixture list)

Whatever happens with Lowe we have our club back .

UTS .

Perfect time for Draper to come back then. Fans who love him and a manager who is obviously fantastic at man management

Please educate me.

Barnwell’s love child?

Money ball approach?

DD i presume is Richard Money and not Donervon Daniels but i dont follow the reference. Yes, i had a heavy night i know.

I’m guessing that Barnwell’s love child is an allusion to Flynn’s ā€˜industrial’ playing style (old school football where you play very directly and ask the defenders to ā€˜clear it’) @VentionRed

I think this is a little unfair on Flynn because he did a very good job at Newport and has always been very respectful about Walsall and their supporters. After losing to ten-man Scunthorpe, I also genuinely believe that Matt Taylor was going to take my beloved club into non-league.

It’s fair to say that life as a Walsall supporter is currently much more pleasurable! :slightly_smiling_face:
