If they are going to back someone like Phillips, why not just back a far better manager in the first place

Was he in attendance the weekend?

I would be more than happy with either Steve Bruce of ROK as Director of Football and a head coach like Sadler or Phillips, rather than the existing model of a manager running the football side on his own, which is basically the first team.
Seems to me to be the best way to develop a longer term footballing philosophy, rather than going back to square one every 18 months or so.

Although i will fully get behind any manager who is given the task of pulling us from the doldrums i cant help but think this is the easy and cheap option. Nothing he achieved at his last club was remarkable would of been more remarkable for them not to get promoted imo.

Only way i can see this working out is if KP has an old experienced head next to him as assistant or DOF. Someone along the lines of O’Kelly , someone previously said Ian Holloway or even David Kelly.

This appointment would go one of two ways either relegation from the football league or a little gem who has been plucked from nowhere no inbetween.

If KP is given the role of course my full support will be thrown behind him

Echo the statements made by many on here in being whoever is appointed will get my full support, but call me cynical, it just feels like groundhog day and I can’t see much changing.

Jesus Christ Nooooo, I’m praying all this advanced talk with Phillips is bullshit, if not we are looking straight down the barrel of a twin bore.

He isn’t my preferred choice, but at this moment in time, I can’t seeing anyone coming in and doing well.

If it’s true there’ll be a huge circus in the media surrounding it.Ironic really as we have a couple of clowns on the board.

Kevin Phillips was a superb player and footballing hero for me. But I just have a feeling he won’t cut it as a manager, despite his success at South Shields where he was well backed.
As for Steve Bruce as D.O.F.; well that would just compound matters.
If there is any chance of bringing in the Cowleys but the board appoint Bruce and Phillips I believe it would a great opportunity missed and a grave mistake.

:rofl::rofl: blokes a multi millionaire, he won’t be coming anywhere near us.

Whoever made that up should seek help.

In my humble opinion it will be criminal if we don’t try and keep ROK at the club in whatever capacity, assuming that he wants to.
It’s rare that a club at our current level has the potential opportunity to have someone with his qualities on board.
He should be our first signing .

It’s not so much the worry about someone coming in and not doing well that bothers me. More bothered about someone coming in and it being a complete disaster and us not being able to dig ourselves out of it.

Steve Bruce :joy:

Yeah let’s get him, Steve Coppell and Martin O’Neill in.

Anyone else just feeling demoralised about this whole manager situation? Lowest I’ve felt as a walsall fan I don’t understand how things have gotten this bad…

We all know the Cowley brothers are highly sought after, and maybe they’re all ready lined up by another club. Phillips is probably second choice, and the fact he lives locally is a plus. If O’Kelly would agree to work alongside him, I would be content with that. As for Steve Bruce; expensive and a has been.
