Peterborough Utd (A) EFL Trophy 3rd round Jan 14 7.45pm

It was too similar to the Reading game for me. Great approach play in the second half, but no sharpshooter to finish the moves.
Danny is not the answer, and the other forwards are not goal scorers. The midfield worked tirelessly, but similarly they won’t score regularly.
So, I’ll not mention the obvious, and it’s over to you Mat Sadler!

I feel a bit sorry for DJ, he has had ten minutes here and there for the last three months. He looks rusty and needs a bit more game time to find his shooting boots. The fact he is getting chances as did josh when he came on can only be good news.

Hey all because he has ginger hair no need to call him rusty

Same here - it was easy and far more stress free when we were sh1t!

Absolutely. And I’m one of his critics.

The amount we created today bodes well.

Saddler spoke so well after the game. Rightly didn’t call out DJ and pointed out the positives from a very disappointing result against poor opposition.

Despite poor defending at times and making so many changes we grew into that game. Crap decisions by the ref at times. No way was that a penalty . Their no17 (what a wuss) screamed in mock pain and got the decision he wanted for his fabrication. So proud of the lads though. That never die spirit was there again. To hit the woodwork three times and to have their keeper make four or five excellent saves says it all. Just one of those nights that it was destined not to happen.

Just got back after a long old drive home.

Really proud to be a Saddler tonight - as I have all season. Sluggish first 30 minutes but things livened up once JJ got on for DD. Gutted for DD though. He’s been trying to get back in the team all season and then his calf goes. I hope he plays again this season.

Their first goal Hornby should have saved it really. The pen decision was ridiculous - their player kicks the ball against big Dave, and its a pen? - Have the rules changed? - I didn’t get it when I sitting in the stands, and having seen the replay its even more bizarre. Their third goal was offside.

Lakin absolutely outstanding. He probably shades it from Jellis for my MOTM. How he didn’t score tonight I don’t know. Only worry is that JJ and Lakin ran themselves into the ground tonight - hope they’re both ok for Dons on Saturday.

Albert had a good game - particularly when he moved to RWB. Disappointed DJ didn’t take all the chances he had - but all good strikers miss - and part of it is being in the right position - sometimes that off the ball stuff isn’t appreciated. Could have been 5-4 inspite of the officials gifting them 2 goals.

Flash looked good when he came on - delighted he got a goal.

Please keep this group of players and backroom staff together as we’re going places. This team easily top half league one and probably better. Not a disaster to lose tonight. Just hope our luck evens out as we got the brown and stinky end of the stick tonight…

Gordon’s goal made me laugh.

Unlucky lads, on to the next one.

The boy they signed from Sweden cost £500,000. Context is everything!

Our home games are all winnable, provided that the fans, the players and the coaching staff all unite as we be to achieve the promotion aspiration.

First 15 mins killed us, simple as that.
MS made too many changes imo, neither starting wing back really did what was expected of them and that had a major impact on how we started the game.
Tbf I understand the changes and that’s why we have a squad, I did think we could go all the way in this competition thou but it weren’t to be, DJ missed a couple of very easy chances that he should have put away but that’s match sharpness, he find himself in the positions and tbf won a few free kicks with his hold up play, great to see JG return and score, let’s hope he finds his Barrow form.
2nd half we gave it a good go and deserved more from the game and to our credit we battled on and never gave up, that’s the hallmark of a good team and MS and his staff have created that so must take the credit, one of the biggest disappointments for me his playing Albert where he does, we move on to Saturday’s match where we get the 4 points and continue our march to the league title.

We created enough chances to win 3 games, i don’t think we can complain to much.

But I’ll say it again, we have lost Lowe, Hall , Earing and now Daniels. We urgently need to bring some options in.

Agree with most of that mate :+1: but even though we are good i’m not sure if we will get 4 points Saturday

The loss of Daniels isn’t too worrying to me (although I obviously feel sorry for him) as we have McEntee, Weir and Browne who can all come in and no more cup games to play.

We’re definitely light in midfield and upfront though.

I think we need 2 midfielders and 1-2 upfront.

Yep I’d agree with that :+1:t2:

I agree on Daniel’s and also feel really sorry for him - it didn’t look good the way he left the pitch and wonder if we’ll see him again this season

We shouldn’t underestimate the impact of not having Stirk on the pitch last night - with him (and DJ putting his sitter away) I feel we could have won that tonight even from 3-1 down…

Uncle Albert looked fantastic at RWB and the shift he put in was awesome…

1 decent quality player in midfield and a striker would be sufficient from the window IMO

Just seen on the Posh website that 215 hardy Saddlers made the trip last night - fair play to you all, that’s a great turn out :clap::clap:

I thought the same. That could have been the last we ever see of him as I’m not sure we’ll renew his contract.

I agree on Stirk too, he’s an absolutely key player for me.

I would be happy with 1 striker, but in midfield I think we’ll need 2.

If we got a season ending injury to either Jellis or Lakin I think we’d struggle.

Comley doesn’t bring enough for me to be anything other than a very occasional replacement for Stirk in games like last night. I wouldn’t want to see him playing as an 8 in a game that we need to win in pursuit of the title.
