Before the Trivela takeover, I’d given up on home games and was only going away. With all the momentum behind us of not only league form, but off the pitch improvements, which there are many, I’ve been to more home games in the last couple years than I had combined during our tenure in league two. I have to admit though, I think that will be my last for a while again. Not because of the result, I’m just not suited to home ‘atmospheres’. Preferably, I’d have been in blocks FL3/FL4 in the lower but due to the limited availability, I ended up in FL6, not for the first time this season. On Saturday, I was told to ‘sit down’ and told off for swearing within the first 15 minutes of the game. If I can’t stand or swear in the first 15 mins of that game, then I really give up.
Well, the answer is to have parts of the ground where you can and parts where you cannot. There are some people who cannot stand for long periods so if someone in front of them does stand up, that is the end of their game. They might argue that, if they have booked a seat, they should be allowed to sit in it and see the match.
On other threads, fans have been exchanging views on how we can attract more supporters and be more inclusive to families and ethnic minorities.
Maybe should ask yourself why you cannot go 15 minutes without swearing in front of other people?
Have you ever thought that other people, including families with young children, might want to enjoy the game sitting in the seats they have paid for, without having someone standing and swearing in front of them?
In this life we cannot always behave in public the way that we do when at home.
against modern football.
Also pre plan I find if I sit in a cold plastic seat for a long time my old joints seize up
So I changed my seat in the middle tier to back row in the lower I now can stand up all match and it effects no one else
Isn’t that what the family stand is for? Which is only ever half full. There was also plenty of disabled seats available in the same stand. I have a disabled daughter and with the availability there, that’s where I’d personally take her if she was to come with me.
As for this, I can normally go a good 20 mins watching Walsall, but the intensity of the match and the occasion reduced me to the savage I clearly am. Thanks for helping me reflect on that.
Savage
We had 2 advantages over our rivals up to Jan. One was Nathan Lowe, the other was our fitness levels, particularly with our midfield. How many times did we pulverise our opponents in the second half?.
We can’t do anything about Lowe leaving. However it’s been evident since Jan that the players have become increasingly tired. I’m sure that at half time Darren Moore told his players to expect a bombardment from us- but we had absolutely nothing left in the tank. In every interview this year MS has said how everyone in the squad would have something to give. Yet he still rarely changes his team. We have 2 players for every position yet we still see Liam. Dave, Jellis, Conor (until he was suspended), Tayls, Jamma etc in the starting line up despite the fact that they are knackered.
These guys haven’t become bad players in the past 3 months. Their workload has been totally mismanaged. If we don’t make the automatics there’ll be only one man to blame.
Including our 3rd keeper, Barrett, and with Maher coming back (plus Rico Browne), we have 27/28 players. All apart from Earing (and maybe Farquarson) are fit.
Sadler raves about the quality of his squad so fatigue can NEVER be the excuse (IF we don’t make it)!
I sympathise mate. I’m 64 and normally polite and relatively reserved in my daily life. I turn into something completely different when watching the Saddlers.
Effed and blinded all match the other week (Grimsby) particularly at the ref and their players when they came near us after they scored.
Farquarson can’t be far off, he was warming up with the team on Saturday.
I agree with everything you have said, particularly the fan’s reaction to being let down for the umpteenth time in our Walsall FC journey. You accept the ‘underdog’ tag, whilst trying to ride the derision from the big four clubs around us, and in my case a local Vale fan/mate on Saturday, but just by the law of averages we have to be due our 15mins of fame. ‘Fans would leave in their droves’, exactly this, this one has hit harder than before, it really felt like we had turned the corner into the sunny uplands, didn’t it?
It’s the hope that kills you, how stupid we are ?
Spot on, just take a look at LG at the end of the game. I think the Doncaster game will prove to be the last game we ‘gave it a good go’.
Hoofball won’t cut it!
Exactly what i do. I’m back row FL3. I stand all game and I’m not blocking anyone’s view either
After missing the game completely on Saturday, then the obvious dissapointment since - I’ve only just got round to watching MS post match interview.
He aint gonna change anything is he? It well and truly is gonna be live and die by the sword.
What was that bollocks about enjoying the place we’ve earned? What knocked off bloody top after 16 games of utter crap for the most?
Its infuriated me to the point i wished i hadnt bothered. I dont wanna be negative but my feelings and opinion on how this season is going to end have just been bolstered by that drivel he’s spouted.
I want whats best for our club as much as the next Saddler and i’ll support them as best i can come what may, but this is damn hard at the moment.
I know he has all the requisite badges, I know he’s a good man manager when things are going well. I’m not sure he has the mettle to tell them the truth when things are not going so well. I don’t remember Cloughie being that nice a manager to play for, but he knew how to get the best out of his players.
I saw an article from the Express and Star yesterday. Most of it was behind the paywall. The headline was something along the lines of
“Sadler has strong words with players after Vale defeat”
It went on to say, with the bit you could read for free,
Sadler tells players to prove doubters wrong.
I guess that is us fans. Or maybe not. I hope it works anyway. Not exactly strong words.
Brian Clough is one of my heroes. Growing up, I worshipped the man.
However, those were different times.
His style wouldn’t work with modern footballers in modern times.
