I lived in Alsager for 20 years, half way between Crewe and Stoke on Trent, I worked in Hanley and can definitely say that Crewe is an upgrade on Stoke.
That’s not in any way a compliment to Crewe…
Can’t judge support by empty seats, that only speaks to the size of the ground relative to the support, you need to look at the full ones.
If we took 40k to Wembly I definitely wouldn’t describe it as poor suppirt because there were 10,000 empty seats around us.
Like comparing a cat turd to a dog turd tbf.
Blue moon is a Crewe song. Way before man city caught onto it.
He should take a leaf from our photographers that only seem to capture empty seats.
Never knew that.
Yeah they’ve sung it for years
Over the past 40 years, I have seen us play Crewe so many times I have lost count, and I have never heard them sing it before.
Saying that, I don’t think I have ever heard them sing before.
I remember that song well from the 1993 play offs, which is something I wish I could set aside in my memory bank, and was aware that Man City adopted it from them (consensus appear to be around 1989 / 1990). No idea on why it began at Crewe. It’s an odd choice.
Not disputing what @Jonah has said, but it does seem an odd choice for a team that’s played in red for as long as I can remember.
Me too - I try and shut out memories of watching tony naylor run rings round Colin methven while getting soaked on the open terrace.
Noticed another flair that’s been let off. What is it with those just lately.
Couldn’t they get a blue flare?
Were they singing blue moon last night too? Probably a daft question but why?
Apparently so… someone mentioned it a little earlier in the thread.
In a week’s time we’ll be asking why Notts County fans sing “I had a wheelbarrow, the wheel fell off”
Crewe singing Blue Moon goes back a long way.
I want to say mid 80’s.
I think they were at some random away ground and somebody just started singing it and it caught on. Don’t think it has anything to do with kit colour or a particular player.
Certainly singing it before City.
Their endless repetition of that dirge is particularly objectionable
It’s pretty amusing the first time your hear it but I take your point - although true of any terrace chant that drones on too long.
Good point, well made and totally true
