Pre Season Friendlies 2026

Double the prices I say ..

I suspect that most / all will be home long before its completion the 19th July!

I think clubs like Liverpool barely even play pre-season games in this country anymore. It’s a bit of a surprise Villa still bother with us to be honest.

I went to one of these games once, 2009 I think it was. John Carew was very impressive, but paying to go and see Bescot crawling with Villa fans really doesn’t do it for me.

Liverpool are taking part in the Premier League Summer Series which is in the US after the World Cup.

Also taking part are Sunderland, Leeds……. and Wrexham.

I think Liverpool still send a team to Tranmere most seasons. Probably a similar set up to Villa coming to us. Convenience more than anything.

I am sure Villa see it as doing us a favour and they probably are.

It’s a nice payout for us, no doubt. Villa aren’t doing anything out of the goodness of their hearts though. Local friendly, chance to try out a few players, chance for the Pelsall/Rushall lot to see their team for the only time that season.

Never seen such an uninterested half hearted display by an England squad for many years, against New Zealand minnows. (reminded me of our displays at home this season gone) I’m sure the majority are only there for a bumper pay off and a sunny holiday! Compare them to the eager, Scotland performance, what a difference. And who the hell are some of these so called stars he has chosen to be there, not even heard of some of ā€˜em….no pride any more in wearing an England shirt, if only they showed the same commitment as the countries fans!

You can’t read too much into that game last night. It was nothing more than a glorified training session. Get a bit of match fitness, get used to the heat. 4 Arsenal players were missing, at least two of them are guaranteed starters. Don’t get over worrying about whatever Scotland are doing, I’m sure they will find a way to cock things up.

The only concern I have is that once again we showed our reliance on Harry Kane, but we already knew that.

I’m not saying we will do any good, it is going to be difficult in the heat but we aren’t a bad side. Not at all.

Where is the bumper pay off coming from? I thought it was well known that England players give their match fees to charity, and if there is a pay off I assume we will have to achieve something for them to get it.

In 1966 it made a difference in terms of the side benefits such as advertisements and endorsements, which were less common than nowadays. Dare I say that, with all the England players super rich anyway, they do it mostly for the honour?

We’re hosting Villa vs Real Sociedad and Wolves vs Real Sociedad

I’m fine with this. The more money we can bring in, the better! This could be worth another player for us! The difference between the Villas of this world and us, was brought into sharp focus to me this morning when I saw that Ollie Watkins was using a Ā£65k Hermes bag whilst on England duty in the US! That’s a player’s wage for us. I know Villa do the friendly with us, but we are the closest available ground to them, and most of their fanbase in Sutton. They don’t generally give us any of their promising players though, these generally go to the likes of Swindon and Crewe! That should change!!

Exactly - it really frustrates me when we seem to lose out on potentially decent players - we should be their primary club for loans if mutually agreeable (not sure that’s actually allowed in FA/EFL rules…)

Real Sociedad at least managing to spell our stadium name correctly unlike our neighbours…
