Not sure I’d call that day ‘happier times’
It was probably the last time we’ve seen a Walsall team truly play their hearts out. Doubt we will see such a domineering away performance again for a while.
Grimsby?
That was total football, that day
Unfortunately there are parallels to this season … missed out on automatic promotion by 1 point (Burton), and coming up against bottom playoff club on a good run (Barnsley)
We finished one division and one place above where we did this season, and In Bradshaw, Sawyers, Demetriou and Henry had players who were hugely entertaining to watch, and some of the games were brilliant entertainment, such as Gillingham at home, to name one. So I’d say much happier times.
It wasn’t Sadball though…
Reasons to be cheerful Nos 1 to around 20: We ain’t
Chester
Hartlepool
Southend
Bury
etc - fill in the rest with your own chosen dead beats.
- We’ve had our best season for years
- We might get promoted
- We have the core of a decent team, with a couple of key additions
- I’ve seen us play some terrific football (at times) this season
- I have a team I love to support, warts and all. We’m Worsul, ay we.
Number 23. I just don’t see it. What is this core of a decent team? There will be very little left at the end of the season, unless we go up.
Jellis will be sold, Williams pretty much already gone. We will have no goalkeepers, a strike force of J.Gordon and Amantchi. Hopefully Taylor Allen will still be around but it is going to be a big rebuild job this time.
Number 25 is your best point, I am in full agreement with that one.
Just got given a copy of the 1933 Arsenal programme (signed by G Alsop) to go with my grandfather’s ticket. Will get them framed when I get home.
Cheerful? I’m ecstatic!
You’re right, of course.
Southend are in the play-offs and could be promoted and playing us next season.
Chester have reached their play off final.
Bury have been promoted breaking every non-league record going, and are on their way back.
A few years ago folks were saying the same stuff about non-league clubs like Luton, Wrexham, Stockport and Chesterfield.
They all need at least 1 and probably 2 seasons to get where we are today.
And I’m going to sing and cheer loud and proud today at Chesterfield.
Come on you saddlers!
We either win the semi and get through to Wembley else we lose and Sadler is the next Shrewsbury manager. A win, win.
Shrewsbury job already filled by Michael Appleton.
Let’s hope we have reasons to be cheerful in three hours time. Looking at Chesterfield’s recent form though … I’m very nervous.
