If he is as bad as you say there is no way we would have been running away with the League for a lot of the season. CB is a key position and players grow into it as they mature. I like the lad and think he will be a key good player for us in the years ahead. He is certainly not a piece of excrement as you described him earlier.

Yes, no poor player has ever been part of a side that was good for 5 months then completely shit the bed :joy:

What is it with this myth? When he played Centrally this season it was an absolute disaster, coincided with a run so bad it cost us a 12 point lead and he looked like Bambi on ice in the role.

If you play a footballer as limited as Okagbue as your central defender, good luck playing anything other than hoof ball. The middle defender of the three has to have some semblance of passing ability.

Absolute gash as per usual.

I’ve given you the pros and cons yet you go back to the run like he was responsible for it. You know that’s bollocks.

I’m not a “told you so” kinda person … but I will take great pleasure saying it to you by the end of next season.

Oooh. Someone’s an angry elf this morning :joy:

I agree that Okagbue can be terrible but one of the worst performances I’ve ever seen from a footballer was a young lad who played for Oldham many moons ago. Our winger tore him a new one: his name? Earl Barrett.

For those saying that he’s part time quality, please provide me with a list of u21 International captains within Great Britain: I imagine that there can’t be too many in the last 100 years…

They are your “pros and cons “. I don’t accept them at all. If you cannot accept he played an important role in our finishing 4th then there is no point in continuing this . We simply don’t agree and won’t agree.

I think they all played a big part in us finishing fourth, rather than first, second or third.

Oh he certainly did :joy: :joy: :joy:

You’re right, we wouldn’t have finished 4th without him, probably 3rd or 2nd, if a player can’t kick a ball ( and he can’t) he should seek the shortest route to find a player who can actually kick a ball. It wouldn’t be so bad if he was good in other departments to make up for his lack of basic skills when it comes to kicking a ball. While I’m at it, why the hell is Jellis allowed to take corners?

So he is now responsible for us not going up ! Up to now it has been MS or Mark Robins or Ben Sadler or BB. But now it has been revealed .. a 21 year old CB. Utter rubbish.

Yeah, he was an important role in us going on a run of 3 wins in 21 games. Very important.

Honestly you can’t make it up with some people.

So important in getting us a 4th placed finish, but is absolved of ANY responsibility when it come to our awful form.

Got it.

Yeah, ridiculous isn’t it to credit one player with the performance of a whole team? Would be the same if you tried to credit them for a good run of form wouldn’t it :joy:

If you want to point blame though, I mean, we were in a one off play off game to get promoted … and Okagbue put in one of the worst performances I have ever seen from a Walsall player. Not solely his fault, but that didn’t help.

Dave Okagbue is still developing and probably will carve out a decent career for himself. Ive seen alot worse defenders this season in league. He just got a knack of switching off during games.

It’s not a myth though is it? Last season him moving there was a big reason for our upturn in form, and I don’t think you’ll find many that disagree.

Granted, he hasn’t been great when he’s played there this season, that’s easy for all to see.You don’t necessarily have to be a good passer of the ball in that role, depending on how your manager asks you to play. If you’re asked to just play simple balls across the back line or into the CDM then that’s fine, he’s more than capable. Anything other than that the I agree

Yes? Because he did play there last season and it was a f***ing disastrous.

You do though. Naturally that player will recieve more of the ball than almost any other player apart from maybe your centre mid. Almost every top level 3 man defence I can think of has the best ball player in the middle. John Stones, played there for England, De Ligt for United, both with Maguire, the Okagbue of the three, wide. Lacroix in the middle for Palace with Richards out wide. Wolves have Agbadou in the middle, with Toti Gomes out wide. West Ham have Mavropanis in the middle with Kilman out wide. All of those central players are better ball players than at least one of the players outside them.

I have not seen worse with the ball at their feet I can tell you that for certain.

That’s the point, he’s not.
