Out of contract players would only keep Kinsella all the rest can go. Would also try and offload Ferrier.
The Cook situation is interesting. Personally I would do everything possible to keep him. He will score for fun in League Two, especially under an attack-minded manager with some proper tactical nous and hopefully playing in front of some better midfielders. Lincoln have just cruised to promotion with bleedin John Akinde as their main striker!! If we sell Cook we might get Ā£100k maybe more, but I canāt see us replacing him with anyone who guarantees goals the way he will.
If we got an offer of over Ā£250k then I would sell Cook. He did nothing in key games against our relegation rivals at the end of the season. Iām just not convinced by him.
Iād keep Dunn - he did okay in key, high-pressure games at the end of the season. Iād definitely keep Devlin- heās got fire in his belly and is good going forwards - Iād play him on the right of midfield or wing back. Iād also keep Kinsella and Morris. Iām not too bothered about Edwards- he must be one of our highest earners and was poor last season. All the others can go.
Hard to make a call on the ākidsā having been basically abandoned by Keates.
Apart from Kinsella, the rest should go (though some wouldnt sign anyway - and had next season already sorted elsewhere months ago)
Thatās sad. The youth must have been really disillusioned over the last year, and that should be something that set off alarm bells at a āsellingā club.
Completely disillusioned I agree. If you chat to the ākidsā they cannot understand why ākidsā from other clubs - also with no experience of senior football - were brought in.
Though I think the signing of Laird caused the biggest ruptions.
Iād like to see what Mussa can do. Itās hard to make a judgement without having seen him for any length of time.
Yes, the kids did not do the business when they had a chance, either at Walsall or out on loan. We need to be in a reserves league next season where the kids can get some decent experience.
Why was the signing of Laird a problem?
I hear the signing of Purkiss caused the biggest e-ruptions
I know a lot of supporters (including myself) were shocked at the lack of visual fitness of Cook , but the way we played him with Deano at the end of his time was hoofball over and over again and was not playing to Cooks strengths , not when the opposition know we are going to keep doing the same thing over and over , so they just stick two , sometimes three defenders on him heās never going to get much joy , but look how many goals heās scored .
He played so well the last game , and did more movement than iāve seen him do all season , and how he set Flash up for his goal .
With an attacking manager working on him and his fitness I would definately keep hold of Cook .
Who else do we have that will score anywhere near as many goals , and how much would we have to spend to replace him .
WTF are we doing signing a bloke who canāt get in the team at Forest Green.
Putting pressure on Leahy, help him improve the defensive part of his game. Not the worst signing of the season in my opinion. In the perfect world we would have shipped Leahy out in the summer and spent his wages (and Lairdās eventual budget) on a quality LB.
Agree, that was possibly the most pointless signing I am yet to see in all my time following the club.
The issue with Leahy and Devlin is that they were signed to play wing backs as part of a 3-5-2 formation. But JW got rid of Preston and fell out with OConnor so reverted to 4-4-1-1 which didnāt suit Leahy and Devlin and left Oztumer playing behind Roberts but mostly Bakayoko.
Good signings as wing backs, but vulnerable in a 4-4-2 / 4-4-1-1
Ye but isnāt that the mistake , signing two players on two year contract that can only adapt to one formation.
Personally I wonāt be overly concerned if any of those out of contract were to be released. The more change and fresh faces we get in the dressing room the better. Iād be OK with Kins staying, maybe Devlin and Edwards.
Got to trust Clarke to recruit for the system he wants to play and the more budget he gets (by not renewing contracts) then the better chance he has of achieving that.
Iād keep Chris Dunn, Nicky Devlin, Callum Cockerill-Mollett, Liam Kinsella, Keiron Morris, Dylan Parker.
Although a few of them would be depending on whether theyāre willing to take big pay cuts, itās basically a take it, prove yourself to me, the club and the fans or leave it and have a new start somewhere else.
Iād also stick Liam Roberts and Morgan Ferrier on the transfer list.
I think Morris is the interesting one, with the right coaching and confidence he has the ability to rip League 2 apart.
Hope he stays.
