Sadler Out Protest against Accrington

Mate, I honestly don’t think they’ll sack him if we miss out.

Have a horrible feeling you may be right, hope they are prepared for the drop in income.

:joy: we shall see !

Two games too late. Should have gone after Barrow.

Even if I did think it was a good idea, I have no energy left to protest.

Agreed. I couldn’t find the energy to celebrate the equaliser on Friday , and I’m not fussed about making a stand next Saturday - tbh if the little one doesn’t mention going to the game, I doubt I’ll even bother.

Deflated is probably the best description I can muster right now - bring on the cricket season and consign 24/25 to history ASAP, please.

All I did was clap at the equaliser on Friday, deep down I just felt it wasn’t good enough to achieve anything.

The way it’s always been done in the past.

You don’t sing for the manager out you sing for the chairman out.

Usually does the trick

We couldn’t muster a decent protest at home against Tranmere when a defeat would have sent us spiralling towards the non league trapdoor, and a shitload of effort was put in rallying the fanbase against a widely hated chairman

I know people are frustrated but I certainly don’t like your chances right about now :rofl: but the best of luck :+1:

Given he was rewarded for our excellent form in January with a contract extension and a bumper pay rise I’m not sure they can afford to sack him.

Stupidity.

If needs be they could. It shouldn’t be about cost, it should be about doing whats right for the football club. If we fail to get promoted from the position we were in at the turn of the year then I’m afraid his position should become untenable. The mistake trivela made was twitching at the first sign of brilliant form. I’m not sure they would sack Mat even if we failed to go up, but he should be. The trust of the majority of supporters would be broken. It’s on a knife edge now. Massive couple of weeks ahead, maybe 6 weeks

Unless they have changed how they set up manager contracts, it wouldn’t be paid off in a lump sum anyway. Sadler would be paid until he finds other work. I wouldn’t imagine Sadler is the type to sit on his arse for 3 years, he seems an ambitious bloke, if nothing else.

Too late this season now, but he has some work on his hands to turn this around if we start in League 2 next season. He never had all of the fans for whatever reason, but he has lost a lot of those that were fighting his corner (not all of course)

I’m too numb to think beyond this season, to be honest.

Just had a look to remind myself. His contract expires in the summer of 2028.
It’s almost unheard of these days for a head coach to last 5 years at the same club so getting rid is not some unusual step to take just because of a contract being in place. How many actually work until their contract expires anyway.

As you say there will be clauses written into the contract to fit different scenarios, including a clean break settlement or a payment of his salary up until he finds another job. In the latter case the club might have to pay the difference should he get a lower paid position.

Is there such a thing as a lower paid job than Walsall?

I joke… I think!

I didn’t used to think so, no, however, according to a few on here we are paying him a Kings ransom and can’t afford to get rid

Managers as a rule don’t get paid as much as players, unless that has changed. I remember having an interesting conversation with Sir Ray. He obviously didn’t reveal what his pay was, I wouldn’t have asked, but he indicated I’d be surprised compared to what the players earned, which wouldn’t have been that much with Bonser controlling the wage bill.

Absolutely thats how i understood contacts work in management/coaching in football. You get paid till you find another job. Like you say can’t think too much further than the next few weeks. If we don’t get promoted I’m not sure how he or the club would be able to win the fans back over. Let’s wait and see i guess

I’d say that’s still the case, definitely in the top leagues. I would be surprised though if Sadler is being well rewarded, compared with most the players.

We played well on against Newport and in patches against Harrogate. If we’re in league two next season I actually think Sadler is the man to take us up. I’d be gutted if we sacked him and he turned up as somewhere like Newport and took them up next season. For context I think we’re likely to finish 4th or 5th which I think every Walsall fan would considered a successful season had we asked in July. I know our form has been terrible and as good a reason as any to give him the boot - but we’ve got to look at the bigger picture.

In recent times:

We’ve had plenty of managers capable of a run of bad form.
We’ve had ONE manager capable of getting us 12 points clear.

Sadler in (though I am furious and gutted at our recent form).

If we miss out, he would never be taken seriously, he has messed up every good run we have had. If we miss out there is no way back for his reputation here. Said weeks ago no one has missed out from a position like we were in in recent history. Let that sink in.
