Southend United (H) November 14th, 3pm

We had some good wingers in hibbits time that could get you off your seat, Chris Marsh was tricky and boy was Adrian LittleJohn quick.

I think they can and do some sometimes use Lilleshall too

Well, that’s a disappointing result. Not impressed.

Wilson was there before Nicholl I can remember him scoring goals under Hibbitt early season against Plymouth in the league cup, maybe even a hat-trick in an unlikely thrashing as they were a league above us.

Thinking back to that period I can also remember a player called John Keister. He was the only player I knew who’s idea of winning the ball back was a two footed tackle around the opposition players hips!!! The whole crowd used to whince everytime he went in for a tackle. Great guy.

One thing i HAVE noticed about our play, we never put a decent ball into the box, ever ? it’s just a bread and butter clearance for their defence.
And we never put in a decent corner? so after all the time DC has spent with them on the training ground, if that is the best he can coach then we are doomed.

And we never have anyone attacking the near post anticipating a cross in and trying to get in front of the defender.

I know today was a bad result but in fairness, the fans have a right to feel let down. The football has been rubbish since Smith left. We had a few decent victories over Sheffield United under Whitney but the chairman and manager have told the fans to expect a promotion push. The squad was settled over the summer and there is only Gordon who is injured from most fans’ first eleven.

Walsall fans don’t expect glory but we have a right to be entertained. I look at Crewe right now and think that’s the blueprint that I want my team to show.

We may be hard to beat but the football is boring. My teenage son would rather look on his phone than watch the team on iFollow.

Since Marcus Stewart left, we’ve looked bereft of ideas up front. The manager is beginning to sound like a broken record.

A decent manager would stick to round pegs in round holes and a settled formation. Currently, it’s almost impossible to predict the starting eleven. I could understand caution in a higher league but in league two, I expect a few goals and the occasional 3 or 4 nil (even a 4:3).

Does anyone believe that this is ever going to happen with Clarke in charge? He seems so sour and dour in interviews nowadays. It really doesn’t create energy or enthusiasm for the players or the fans…

I don’t want to sound overly dramatic but I honestly fear that we might become the next Chesterfield…

Ye because it either never gets past the front post, or like Mcdonald today, it just goes out for a throw in on the other side.

The thing is though we aren’t hard to beat. And we can’t win either.

Totally agree. Our problem this season has also been that we always seem to have a really good 10-15.minute spell in most matches. In nearly all of those we have failed to take advantage and score, and when we don’t our heads drop and our whole tempo and everything just drops away.

That for me is down to Clarke’s failure as a coach. Footballers don’t need to be intelligent, they just need to implement a game plan the is drilled into them by the manager and the coaches. This is clearly lacking at the moment.

Today was my 3rd game this season and it was just like the 10 games I saw last season. I just wish he would pick the best players in their best positions in the best formation, then we can see where we are. I suspect it won’t improve much from where we are now but at least we will know where we need to improve.
At the moment, if McDonald isn’t creating (and he isn’t) then we are unlikely to score.

As someone mentioned above our attacking performance has got worse since Marcus stewart left . But is it not worth getting in a decent replacement to give us a bit of impetus for the remainder of the season and a shot at the playoffs as Stewart’s good work was starting to show before lockdown.

Never be ashamed of who you support mate no matter what that’s who we are

You mean someone like David Kelly? I know that there might be jokes about him following Billy Davies everywhere but if he was on WM recently, surely he has something to offer.

My fear is that Clarke would be too insecure and see it as a threat. However, I would argue that it is Pomlett who has to assert his authority. If Clarke doesn’t like it, he can always resign. I look at our current coaching staff and it doesn’t hold a candle to Cutler, Smith and O’Kelly, does it?

Nope don’t like the man don’t like his tactics don’t like his constant changing of things deep down I don’t think the players do either he comes across like he wouldn’t even listen if you had a good idea on the training ground he comes across like he’d shoot you down even if you came up with something that could help as if his way is the only way and that’s that I couldn’t work for a man like that and I don’t think this lot want to either.

I don’t think the problem is the defence as much as it is the attacking play. If we had scored another 10 goals this season we would be in the top 7. It’s fine margins, but I don’t see where the goals are going to come from until Holden is released from his shackles when Gordon comes back.

The midfield pairing should be Guthrie and then someone who can actually operate in the final third. I genuinely think he should get back on the phone to Sam Mantom, or someone of that type. That one position is killing us.
