Claude Gnakpa?
With respect it is the same issue.We are clearly not in the market for players from abroad not just from the EU but everywhere else. I agree that it won’t be easy for a Division 2 club to acquire players from abroad but not impossible however I suspect the rules concerning visas will be tightened even further given the public disquiet over immigration.
That was because STM stopped going on holiday in Europe/The Gambia/The Caribbean and moved to the US wasn’t it? Did he also have a bit of falling out with Jeff?
Omar Mussa- that young kid we signed from Belgium?
Yes I seem to recall some sort of falling out.Cannot remember why though!
What I meant was that it is irrelevant now as we more or less cannot recruit from abroad. As someone has just pointed out, we did get someone just before Brexit came in.
Osei Yaw was French but I think Oxford must have signed him just before the visa rules came in.
Don’t worry you lot Starmer has already mentioned “closer ties” with the EU and he was only elected just over a fortnight ago.
Isn’t he Argentinian, with an Italian passport?
Bloody Brexit, making us miss out on quality players like Osei Yaw, oh, and Manset!!
He was already playing in England when we signed him but was a player Florent Cuvelier was before that injury
Rules were brought in to better English football and inline with brexit and brought in around 2020, legislation centered around a points based system. All these rules changed on the 14th of June after a consultation into GBE criteria… not alot of time has passed!
A club like Walsall has the option of two ESC permits (Elite significant contribution) which can be applied for any players for 1yr. To be ESC you have to;
- have playerd one competitive youth or senior international game for a team in the top 50 fifa rankings or 5 games outside of the top 50.
- 5 senior games in a band 1-5 international league or continental competition.
Furthermore if you dont play English Qualified Players (ECP, can play for England) in excessive of 35% you lose your ability to hold ESC, more specific about Prem and Championship teams.
We have to have a minimum of 8 players registered as home grown in the squad, which is 3 yrs trained at the club or in the nation before they turn 21. You cant have a squad bigger than 22 players registered.
For a general work permit for a player its 20k per application / 5k per appeal to get a work permit for football outside of the ECP its a points based system.
- You need to have played a minimum of 15 caps for the international team (automatically successful)
- League appearances depending on the reputation of the league.
- Club continental competition appearances (more the better).
All overseas territory act nations count as Non Foreign so we could get players and no permits required from;
- Anguilla / Bermuda / British Virgin Islands:british_virgin_islands: / Cayman / Falklands / Gibraltar / Montserrat / Pitcairn Islands / Saint Helena / Tristan da cunha / Turks and caicos islands .
From my post above its clear the pool of players we could pull from would need to be very targeted and perhaps interestingly because of brexit we maybe able to bring in players from Mexico / Brazil, My wish is that Matt Jordan gets his scouts into those nations and brings us some trialists next year. A player possible signing for us would naturally just go to a higher places club but we can hope.
Also its a shame we cant use commonwealth nations as non-foreign, Australia / Jamaica would hold a wealth of talent at our level.
I’m not entirely convinced in the Brexit argument. I’m sure some specialist employment / immigration lawyers could help overcome these issues
I think it’s more that we don’t have a Paul Taylor. God that man’s scouting network was vast evening stretching to oceania. wasn’t Danny Hay from nz and zdrilic from Australia. we need a striker and off he pops to the Icelandic second division to get us siggi eyflosson. He wasn’t really given a chance but would walk into our side today
One of my favourite players down the bescot watching has to be Emmanuel Ledesma what a player he was btw! That game against Hartlepool at home I’ll never forget
so many paudula, ledesma, Peron, Boli, tholot, herivelto, matias, aranalde, martinez, junior, zdrilic, hay, corica, ediyele,boli
There’s 15 !!!. I bet other people could add more
You’ve got to say our scouting network at that time was amazing. Paul Taylor had a very big phone book !!!
Do the work permit and league registration rules correlate to better England youth performance and by extension better English senior players. It certainly inflates the price.
Blues seem to be signing a lot of European talent
could be wrong but I highly doubt they have an equivalent network to say what Paul Taylor did. Wasn’t paudula Argentinian and Herivelto and junior Brazilian. Could have had Spanish and Portuguese passports though. Not sure
I find those Brexit laws where only the top players can come hard to belive
seem to be loads of unknowns and lower league European players who would not fulfill that criteria
No I reckon Paul Taylors network was bigger but since then it would be smaller now, I think Spain and Portugal can pull from their previous colonial possessions easier hence lots of Brazilians and South Americans in La Liga.
