The Official Summer No Transfer Rumours Thread 2024/25

Surely we want some quality permanent signings though KC, not just some stop gap loans.

I think we need to realise where were at as a club. We have to have loans coming in and my view is that if we can only get these players for a few months on loan its better than not having them at all

Absolutely we do. The loan market has stung us somewhat in recent seasons and I would much prefer permanent signings. My more general point was the perception of signing young, unproven players from unfashionable clubs like Lincoln and Cambridge. If we do the same this summer it will no doubt be met with derision from some on here but we should reserve judgement until we have seen them play. We don’t need to make statement, big name signings just for the sake of it.

Good players… though we have also had our fair share of rubbish loan players too.

That said, having these loans in - and recent signings - still have not led us to promotion.

The one thing we haven’t really tried (or done) since being down here is a summer of ambitious and right profile signings that will take us from being an average also-ran team, to a team that can genuinely challenge.

Because Defending is a thing, and Gordon is streets ahead in that regard, and also contributed more going forward than a supposed winger.

But I know we don’t rate full backs on defence :+1:

Didn’t we let in the most goals in 20 years or something saft?

Yeah, he’s still streets ahead of Knowles on that front. Unless you are claiming literally all those goals were on Gordon.

You know me better than that.

I don’t think Gordon is a wing back personally - he’s a left back.

I don’t think I’ve ever come away from a game thinking ‘Gordon was brilliant defensively’ - in fact, in the second half of the season I thought he was at fault for a few goals, and not that good. Note I did not say he was awful, just very average.

That being said, I think a lot of the problems we have with this set of players goes away with a 4 at the back formation…

I’d agree.

The stats would say otherwise. His turnovers are high, his discipline for a defender is exceptional and his tackle success rate is good. He could stop a few more crosses maybe, but we’re talking league two here.

I don’t think you win the man of the match award for the season as a defender without being brilliant at least a few times defensively. Unless of course people are just that desperate to have a pic with Liam Gordon.

I think lumping him in with Knowles is completely unfair, it’s weird he doesn’t get more credit, and seems to have detractors that delight in him not playing well (not you btw). Knowles was demonstrably poor in every regard last year, including in categories that are supposed to be his forte. If he left the club tomorrow I wouldn’t bat an eyelid, apart from being a bit gutted a seemingly nice guy didn’t pan out to be any good.

Definitely agree with analysis Sadler not showed anything when it come to structural engineering of the team as you might call it .lot of work to be done on that side of it for me .right signings coming in for positions and system we are going to play…believe we just dropped in to a system and style last Season because of the surprise rise of Freddie .

Officially past the point where clubs can negotiate and announce signings of players out of contract for next season by the way. Normally when the movements throughout the league ramp up.

Gordon’s o.k. With the amount of CBs on the books currently then Taylor Allen can fill in at LWB for games on or right after international weekends rather than rushing Gordon back.

LWB is a position that doesn’t need to be looked at for at least another 12 months.

There’s Weir coming in too on the left side.

I’ve always thought that we need a good outlet on the left hand side (to supply crosses).

Someone like Kris Taylor when he was younger, in front of Danny Fox.

I know we’ve been linked to someone called Dutchie…

I heard he was easy to get past…

Would be a fantastic signing and generate a lot of excitement amongst the fans.

Would probably be a loan signing though.

Probably on a wind up, post the tweet starting with an L then announce Josh Gordon.

Or no one is announced
