The Official Summer Transfer Rumour Thread - 2025 edition

Even if he does as well as Lowe it will be unlikely he is recalled to the Premier League. Instead they will look to progress him and move him to league 1 in January

Two loan spells last year: Aldershot and Farnborough

Didnt really get a chance at Aldershot, started one game playing under an hour. 122 minutes across six games during his loan spell there. Raises questions why they didnt give him as much of opportunity at National League level.

Did well at Farnborough though - 10 goals in 19 appearances at National League South level.

Staggers me that we never learn. He does well and say scores 10 by January then they’ll pack him off to league 1 and we’re scratching around again

Cannot get excited about another loan striker…never works out. If he’s crap we’ll get rid and if he’s brilliant they’ll recall him.

I think the issue with loan signings is that players will be compared to Lowe too much. It will be near impossible to get someone that good on loan again. However it doesn’t mean we can’t get good players on loan who are very capable.

He is out of contract at Bournemouth and hasn’t signed a new deal, yet.

Bournemouth won’t recall him unless they are concerned about his playing time or they want to see him at a higher level. He won’t get near Bournemouths team currently no matter how well he does for us.

Hmmmm seem to be signing or interested in a lot of players in non league.

I’d like to see experienced professionals in soon.

I understand the sentiment but ā€œexperienced professionalsā€ vs ā€œpotentialā€ is not always in favour of the former. We have had Labadie, Oteh, Rodney, Ash Taylor, Andy Williams, Stephen Ward, Harrison…

On the ā€œpotentialā€ side, we have had some duffs too but the loans of young players have shown some successes and the likes of Allen, Stirk, and Barrett have not been too shabby.

For me, the experienced player has to be well chosen. Kevin Wilson is probably the best example historically but players like him do not drop through the divisions anymore.

We need a mix that’s for sure. At the moment we look like having too many on the potential side.
Crawley got promotion with a team virtually assembled ftom Non League prospects but you worry about it going the other way.
Who do we have with experience? Adomah(just announced) and Lakin? Then the next most experienced are Jellis, Barrett, Okagbue?

Sounds like the new Freddie Draper to me - let’s hope we can get him in. Does this mean that DJT is leaving?

Oh, plus Josh Gordon

There’s a difference between Over the Hill (Labadie, Ward, Williams) and experienced in being poor for the level (Oteh, Rodney) and experienced players in their prime. They just cost. Shame we don’t have accelerator owners.

Don’t forget Comley and Flush! I would like to see some more experience coming in, though, in goal, in midfield and in central defence.

Stuttle looks an interesting one, looks like another Freddie Draper in style of play, calls himself an old school striker.
Don’t understand the lack of enthusiasm for loan signings, it is and always will be an important part of recruitment.
Where would we be without DJ, Draper and Lowe? The frustration is our activity in the January windows, and this is something that simply has to improve if we are to progress, regardless of whether we lose a loan player or not.
