Ryan Woods rumoured to be off to Oldham

Does that mean we don’t want him? Surely, he’d prefer us to Oldham! I really hope that doesn’t mean we are going to rely on Comley as our main CDM - he’s just not good enough, as he’s proved in his time at the Bescot - he’s mid-table League 2 at best!!

Sloan is a defensive midfielder

I understand the interest in Woods, but we have experience in that position - Comley.

Sloan fits the strategy.

Young, lower wages, hungry, develop, sell at a profit.

Exactly this.

We have only signed 2 players this pre season with English football league experience haven’t we ?

Think we need a few more…

I wouldn’t mind a cb or cm with some decent experience tbh just to help the younger lads from non league

I’ve said it before Comley is a sub at best . If he starts as our CDM we have have no chance. It’s a key position in the way we play and he is a bang average
He does seem to have alot of fans on here though . I don’t see it myself . Sideways and backwards constantly ..

I mean to be fair, the original post from enniskillen said nothing about his actual ability. Just that from the squad building side of it from the club, Comley may be seen as the experienced head in defensive midfield.

He was worse than average last season. I know he didn’t feature that much but when he did he was very poor.

I’d be amazed and very disappointed if he is our plan for that role. I can’t see it myself, we will surely sign a Stirk replacement.

Experience without ability isn’t that much use, I wouldn’t have thought.

Comley was out with a bad injury so it is not fair to judge him on his return. It is very tough for players to come back and reach top form. When he first came, fans were not impressed but he did have a good spell and was one of our better players for a while. With a good pre-season, he might well be a reliable defensive midfielder, probably not first choice, and he is often cited as a leader on the pitch.

Not too fussed about experience in midfield, Stirk was only 22 when he joined us and had only played 31 times in the EFL beforehand.

Would like us to get an experienced centre half in though, someone like a Grant Hanley would be perfect.

Yeah with Williams now confirmed out for the season, we’re light in central defence.

Not my point either. But he has some basic ability and is as bog standard as a League 2 player as you’re gonna get.

Take no notice of me.

He really irked me last season. Not that blame for what happened is on him at all because he didn’t feature that much. To me when he did get on the pitch he was much worse than he had been previously and he was only average then.

I’m alright with him being part of the squad, but we are in some trouble if he is our plan in that role.

For what it’s worth, I don’t mind a young and hungry squad, we’ve carried a few older and more experienced players in the past to our detriment. It does leave you open to what happened last season though. I have no doubt it played at least a small part in it, when the going got tough.

I thought this. Looked distinctly unarsed. Wonder if his nose was out of joint because of lack of game time, which would be an absolute liberty considering he’s lucky to be at a football league club period.

We are that out of touch that there’s more chance of signing Hall & Oates
