Evidently not. Care to provide any?

Seem to remember Pomlett announcing a signing as a “game changer” nearly 4 years on, I am still trying to work out who that was, saw no evidence on the pitch for sure!

I think the generation discussion is really interesting, and almost unimaginable for circa my age. Following Walsall was regularly crap but it was equally regularly wonderful, and rarely dull or uneventful.

I was 30 (supporting since aged 9) in the first Graydon promotion season which was “my” 4th promotion, to add to 4 relegations, loads of cup runs including to a semi final, and a couple of insane relegation escapes, takeovers, a ground move and all manner of dodgy shennaneghans. There was also a small period in the mid to late 80’s where we were literally better than most of the neighbours with the exception of Villa, certainly better than Wolves and had higher crowds one season, and there was no shock about us beating Blues, Albion and Coventry (the latter both over two legs) I would have been disappointed if we hadn’t. The only boring bit was following the move to the soulless Bescot and the Hibbit era, and even that had some merit and a play-off campaign - so I really feel for anyone that’s just had years of gradual, quite turgid decline. I think that’s what annoys me about the rather Americanised “making memories” narrative regards last season…I mean really??

Anyroad just to please the topic pedants, they’ve brought the kit-launch forward to 5pm so that must be the first signing fallen through.

Plus, we often played really entertaining football, and when it stunk at least we had tried to play properly. Buckley, Birch, Dennehy, Evans, Bates (the five of them often in the same line-up!), when it worked it was glorious, and after that we had the teams that The Buck managed.
And now we try to play without the ball.

I remember in my early years of following Walsall, my Dad used to ‘tape’ the goals on ITV News, I used to spend hours watching them. Some great entertainment.

Anyway, on that tape there was an interview with Buckley on ITV news. I think it was either before or after we beat Coventry away 3-0. I have no idea why this has stuck in my mind, maybe cos I watched the tape so often, Buckley said about himself, Gary Pendry and the team, “We want the ball, if we haven’t got the ball, we’re not going to play”

I can see Sadler doing a similar interview. “We don’t want the ball, if we’ve got the ball, we haven’t got a clue what to do with it” !

It’d be funny if we sold Dave to wigan and it was announced at 7 after being on the 3rd kit launch. Now that’d be a walsall kinda thing to do

Jamma’s found a sideline business….. needs to be on the sidelines for me hopefully contributing off the bench however.

Dylan Sloan not in Larne’s squad for their European qualifier tonight :eyes:
