I don’t see Lowe being recalled tbh but if he does we are in an excellent place top of the table to attract very good players for this level if that be on loan or permanently
That’s a great position to be in which make me feel confident. UTS
If he does we’re far from being a one man team. We won our first two games of the season without him. I think we’ll be ok without him - but I’d much rather he stayed.
I think Lowey is pivotal to our forward play. Imperative that if he goes that we find someone like him to come in to the club. Freddie Draper would be a great signing to help rotate with Jamma. Getting someone like Lowey if the worst happens is key. I’m sure we’ll know by this time next week. I’m sure plans are already in place
One thing we’ll find it difficult to replace Lowe with is his relationship with Matt. They dovetail each other really well and have that understanding of where the other will be
I don’t doubt that if Lowe does end up going back Trivella will have a more than adequate replacement lined up. What I do worry about though is how quickly the relationship with Matt develops
I just have a nasty feeling that Lowe will be recalled, we won’t replace him - or a replacement will be less prolific - and we’ll finish up in the lottery of the play-offs.
At the start of the season we’d have all taken the play-offs, but it would be disastrous to let automatic promotion slip through our fingers now.
We’ve seen good first half seasons peter out on more than one occasion recently by having loan strikers recalled, and the long suffering Saddlers fan in me worries that this will happen again.
We may have won our first two games without him but weren’t they against sides at the bottom of the table Swindon Morecambe ? Plus our whole offensive strategy as a team is tailored to a player we’ve borrowed and may lose. Just like DJ and Draper.
I’m torn between loving the quality of forwards we have had and lamenting the short-sightedness of this happening again.
Nathan Lowe is a very good player. He’s outstanding at this level, but his role in this team is aided and facilitated by how good the rest of the team are. It’s division 4, we’ve played just about everybody, and they’ve all been very division 4. No instant ooh look at them types. Can anyone honestly think of 3 teams that could finish above us this season based on the season so far and any scenario barring a catastrophic January and probably ensuing injury crisis?
We are in such a strong position now, if we replicated our from from December last season it would be close to being enough and we are a far better team now, not only with the players we have but how well drilled we are as a team.
I’d happily take 3rd spot, I’m not greedy. I do think if Lowe stayed we could be on for a record points total (for us) not sure what that is actually, but 90 points seems achievable.
I still expect us to go and find a good replacement if the worst does happen with Lowe.
It’s ours to mess up right now, we have been so good and as you say there doesn’t seem to be any obvious teams that can stop us.
I’d prefer Johnson over DJT any day of the week and 3 times on a Saturday. I think a few people are getting carried away with his time at Drogheda, we could do with a decent penalty taker to be fair.
I agree though, we shouldn’t be relying on any of them to replace Lowe directly.
One thing that’s worth mentioning. There’s an old saying - fail to plan; plan to fail. I don’t think that’s something that could be said of this season’s Walsall. If Bonser were still in charge, well, we know what happened to the Lee side in the championship after Christmas…
Bonser was rinsing the club and it was dying the death of a thousand cuts, including (most importantly) playing budget cuts. Did you expect a miracle march to the premier league when Trivela bought ought the club, then married it back up to the stadium, or did you just expect everything to fall apart when your hero finally turned in his chips and cashed out?
Good point but we haven’t always beaten the poor sides in the division. I love this Walsall side and if Lowe goes I think we’ll still be in good shape.
Interesting rumours about Draper. He’s another player I fell in love with and was gutted when he left. Even so I think I prefer Lowe.
I hope simkin stays, still feel a quality back up keeper is needed. If lowe goes it will be a blow im not sure if some players can get over the the loss of a quality player and inpact he has. There is some dead wood we can get rid of if walsall can get rid and replace a couple of players it will put us in stronger potion if we get back to league one and who knows a double bounce could see us challanging for championship… just my thoughts
