There was a bit of trouble after the game a couple of seasons back.

I think it relates to the game against Shrewsbury a few years ago, you can watch it on you tube under the battle of welsh bridge? there were about 20 walsall fans and about 60 Shrewsbury fans at a pub in Shrewsbury? and they got wind of our fans in the pub, at the risk of sounding like i condone it :face_with_raised_eyebrow: we not only held our own but we kicked their arses, the reason there were so many arrests was because a police officer sustained a broken leg in the melee, and my mate at work lost his brother for 6 months as he was sent to prison. pisses me off because i have done things 100 times worse than that, and back in the day we would just get a kicking from cops and sent on our way, or just get a kicking from opposing fans and went on our way, how times have changed.

Adebayo has looked a lot better than Gordon this pre season sign another half decent striker and Gordon starts on the bench for me next week.

Yes. Them and Southend. Saint & Greavesie’s favourites due to footage of their Friday night games being available for Saturday lunchtime.

Who’s who? I’m not sure which side to cheer for!

Gordon’s not a goal scorer. He’s better starting wide in a 3 upfront. We need a proper striker to partner Adebayo.

I don’t think the police had any trouble identifying fans because there were 28 arrests

Gordon plays best, when he is secondary striker. He is not a poacher, but he can harass defenders, annoy them to win free-kicks, cards, or introduce general feeling of possible danger. Kind of luxury player for lower leagues, but when used correctly, he can be great asset.

There was often a bit of trouble at Tranmere back in the day, and one almighty scrap in 1989 when a couple of mini-buses of very drunk Saddlers decided to go to that pub that nobody went in unless you specifically wanted a scrap, I cant remember the name of it, but it was rough! We got there early, about 4pm before any of their lot were out drinking, but when they turned up it kicked off. I was on one of the minibuses from The Miners in Rushall, and virtually everyone that was there got banning orders, the pub got wrecked. I made it into the game with an egg on me jut off a pool cue or pool ball or some flying object and scored a lift home with another mate who was there, I can just remember legging it past the riot vans accross a Quick-Save car-park, no way they were catching me when I was 21!!. Not a great night as we also lost!

I remember going to a night game back in the late 70’s, as we got off the coach there was a group of supporters fighting outside the ground, so we just piled in, little realising that the poor kid i was hitting was another Walsall fan, but i got my comeuppence during the game as i wondered into their end and someone hit me from behind and i was out cold for about 5 mins.

Bloody hell, Stain and Greasie - that takes me back! The Chart Show used to be on before I think?

Just noticed that of the threads for the 6 pre-season games, the one that we won is the shortest, the 2 draws are next, and the 3 we lost have the most posts.

Coincidence, or do our fans prefer to moan more than to praise?

No never. The board will closedown when Bonsors gone !! :joy::joy:

It might have something to do with our superb fans having to put up with years of ■■■■!..

I’m guessing the running of our club is a topic close to most hearts.

Hope I’ve cleared that up for you :+1:t2:

I try not to read too much into pre-season match threads.

It’s all about gaining match thread sharpness after the summer, trying some new ideas, putting in some valuable UTS time and trying to work out which contributors are going to make a real difference between now and May.

Interested to see what @Welsh_Saddler has in up his sleeve for the Northampton (A) match thread, and I’m sure he knows his best eleven. Let’s just hope we can get a good result on Saturday and start the season with a positive match thread.

Either way, think we have to wait 10 match threads into the new season before we decide if these could be League One match threads next term or if we’re just a bunch of negative, miserable bastards.

In WS we trust.

Probably not as simple as that. Often, when we lose we have in-thread arguments between posters which increase the overall length of the thread. When we win, posters will often just type a short, positive message, which doesn’t get the same number of replies.

Exactly , defeat will always create debate at every club in the country.

Win and everyone goes home happy.

Correlation is not causation…

Think it’s more to do with the fact defeats raise more issues for debate which creates different opinions which then creates more replies to one another which makes the thread longer.
