W 2-1 vs Notts County (A) - League Two - Sat 9th Dec, 3pm

I was there and watched the first half, so don’t need to rely on statistics but the evidence of my own eye. We defended well against a good side but had little attacking threat, so in my view we were not “rubbish” but were ok. We stepped up a couple of gears in the second half and were more than ok.

How was the Notts Co performance different to the Bradford performance? After the latter we were full of hope which didn’t materialise.

Ive said before the players did not like Hatswell. He was apparently a nasty piece of works with the players.

This is exactly what we should be doing with Maher in the second half of the season.

Very different attributes, granted, but both players are forward-thinking, tricky, fearless and clever enough to draw a foul in the penalty area.

Given DJ’s recent failures from the spot (and the fact that he can’t take a penalty if he’s not on the pitch!) who is Walsall’s penalty taker, these days?

Am I the only one who doesn’t think draper is ready for league one?
He is good a lot of potential but very raw. League 1 defenders will work him out quick I’d imagine
He will get there but his only 19

Exactly. Great win yesterday but we have already seen several false dawn perfomances this season. It needs to be backed up now with some consistency now.

I think your right, form player although listening to Droghada fans on the Yellow Ribbon podcast they said he looked great but had a slight initial goal drough. Remember how good Barrowman looked for 4 - 5 games.

I think he is better when paired with another striker, he looked fantastic next to DJ and I am sure he would look good next to Jamma.

TBF Lincoln City must think the same too otherwise they wouldn’t have loaned him out.

Draper got loads going for him plenty of time to progress under good coaching how far? early days yet be down to him and how he’s handled.think personally Lincoln will leave him here he’s getting plenty of game time .certainly don’t think he’s ready for league 1

A quite superb result and by all accounts really good all round performance. Very much looking forward to the debrief later. Hopefully this settles everyone down now and we can look forward to the difficult looking upcoming fixture list with renewed confidence and vigour.

Great Post from DD, who i think was excellent and is building on his partnership with Farq and moving forward really effectively (Been getting into attacking positions well for quite a few games now with pace and good passing vision)

I was so proud of this group yesterday. We showed the level we’ve got an the challenge is on us to build consistency.
Stick with us and we’ll give you a team to be proud of. Also, travelling in those numbers was fantastic. The entire team appreciates the effort.

Lincoln are quite rightly concerned with our over-use and dependence upon him. I’m surprised they gave him back after his injury.

In the summer they’d have seen him as behind Johnson and Matt and maybe vying with DJT to be the next in line. As it is we are playing him as a lone striker, running him into the ground for 100 minutes and more at least once a week.

I hope I’m wrong but I see a January recall. Hopefully Trivela’s ambitious plans for the window more than cover this off.

Are Lincoln concerned? I have no knowledge of that. The last I saw from them was how pleased they were with how he was doing at Walsall and how pleased they were with how MS was using him!

No you are not the only one. Draper works hard for the team and is a handful for defenders. IMHO his hold up play needs to improve and he needs to become more savvy as some defenders get the better of him and make him look what he is, a 19 year old. If he learns to look after the ball better, hold it up better and bring people into play he will be ready for the next step. Being here means he will get game time and the opportunity to improve while playing mens football. Not sure he would get as much game time if he was in L1.

Did not see that coming! First half we were doing ok until the goal, but then they took over and it was a good thing we had the break to regroup. Second half we were excellent, did they have a single chance? When you consider how many goals they’ve been scoring that really is impressive.

Is Sadler going to be one of those managers who can pull out enough results to keep the wolf from the door without ever really improving? Whitney was a bit like that. The next two games should give a good idea, you couldn’t ask for two more winnable fixtures really.

Mcentee, I’m still not sold on him as a midfielder, which no doubt sounds a bit mad given what he did yesterday. Clearly got a knack for popping up in the box though.

I agree, but it’s clear that when he gets in the box he’s a threat both aerially and with first-time shots. Probably not the worst idea to surround him with other more traditional CM’s who can do the things that aren’t natural to McEntee, and just allow him to be a physical presence, press and get into the area.

I think we are much more effective with McEntee in midfield. First, he provides a bit of muscle, which is otherwise lacking and, second, he runs his heart out. And while he is not as creative as Hutchinson, say, he is no donkey with the ball either.

I have said it in another thread but I think he will be someone we look back on with fondness in years to come.

Yep, in defence.

McEntee double saves Sadler for now.
