Thought he was outstanding. Again.

That was a very clever header from Clarke. Would have been easier to head it out for a corner.

I said to my mate how good a clearance it was, without it springing an attack.

Had my little nephew with us yesterday who’s been gravitating to Liverpool rather than Walsall  but after yesterday he was running round my brothers front room doing Danny Johnson’s DJ goal celebration. We need to be looking at getting youngsters like him interested and performances and players doing things like DJ does can only help that situation.

Couldnt agree more…He was everywhere with the press and tackles but got his self forward and made some nice balls… helped him no end having comley behind as a break up man…

80 odd minutes in 4-0 to the good and did you see those two Walsall players hustling and harrying to win that ball back in front of the dugouts? Unbelievable work rate and desire that is and something that was seriously missing last season. The difference from last season to that yesterday was something I personally didn’t think was possible and in my opinion it’ll take a serious decline to end up where we finished last season with that squad of players.I’m not saying we are going to piss the league all I’m saying is we won’t be finishing 19th or 16th and people like Flynn and Peter Clark won’t let that happen that’s just my opinion.

I know Hutchinson had to run the length of the pitch to set up Johnson to score, but it was Clarke who made that goal. Saved a goal and set up a goal with one touch. Superb awareness.

Just typified his performance. To coin (or rather recycle) a phrase it was a game changer.

I loved how at 4-0 up in injury time Hutchinson is going berserk at Bennett for having a shot when he was unmarked in loads of space on the edge of the box. Love the hunger.

The amount of times he won the ball in their half was ridiculous.

Hmm it was a nice clearance, but I’m going to give the lad who ran the length of the pitch and put it on a plate the credit for who made the goal.

Thought Clarke was very good though. Read the game exceptionally well, think he only got caught for pace once, which is to be expected with our back line, but his organisation and sense for danger is exceptional.

Shows goes to show how little you know if you thought it was just a ā€˜clearance’

:joy: alright. Shows your reading comprehension that you think that’s what I said.

What a win! Have we dominated a game like that since Smith left?

Evans didn’t have much to do but just distribution was excellent. 7/10.

The back 3 all compliment each other well.

Clarke 9/10
Daniels 8/10
Monthe 9/10

The wing backs have an attacking purpose.

Allen 8/10
White 7/10

The midfield complimented itself yesterday with Comley actually passing and holding - Kinsella pressing and Hutchinson creating. I think if Kinsella wants that position he’s going to have to score and assist more than usual - as he will have Earing, Clarke and Riley breathing down his neck for that role. Can’t fault yesterday though, it worked wonderfully together. What a wonderful position to be in - strength In depth and competition for places.

Comley 8/10
Kinsella 7/10
Hutchinson 9/10

The forwards also worked really well together. We have nice little gangs and partnership developing over the pitch.

Williams 7/10
Johnson 9.5/10

What I thought was very pleasing, was that the subs that come on didn’t make us weaker - and kept the same standard and intensity. That’s very very positive, especially considering the players whom are injured.

All in all, a wonderful start to the season. I think Hutchinson was the real standout - but that was very difficult with everyone playing well - what a talent he is. I was speaking this morning to a current player at derby friend of mine at my lads football; and he still couldn’t believe derby let him go.

DJ did what he was paid to do. Bang bang bang.

Bring on Newport.

I noticed that as well, proper bollocking that was.

I like how hungry our subs were, but I thought they looked very raw. Bennett for example was high energy, but showed some naivety at times. DJT didn’t really get himself in the game. Abraham looks like a sprinter first and a footballer second.

I actually thought of all of them (accepting Earing is now an experienced league two player) Ronan Maher actually looked the most composed and assured of the lot. He’s got a lovely touch and is very hungry for the ball.

The above is the only thing I have to disagree with… he almost scored with his first touch; did everything right, just a good save. He also played in Abraham for a one on one with a clever little pass around the corner. I’d say that was a lot more than not getting himself in the game.

I much prefer average players representing a poor League Two side shushing  loyal fans after their first decent performance and goal in 15 odd games!!… :joy:

Thankfully this group are different! :ok_hand:

Conor Wilkinson, who was a very welcome co-commentator on iFollow, said that Monthe is probably quicker than Abraham but I agree that Daniels and Clarke might get done for pace. They are unlikely to be muscled out of much but I wonder how they will cope with an attack that moves the ball about quickly. The Pool relied a lot on their bulky centre forward and that was easily dealt with.

When he gets going, Monthe is rapid. I think over 10/15 yards Abraham looks as quick as any striker we’ve had in recent years. Hopefully he can add that bit of composure to his finishing, because everything from the timing of the run to his touches for that one-on-one was perfect… Until the most important part.
