Slightly off topic but there’s also Didier Tholot who played in a UEFA Cup final and Jean-Jacques Eydelie who played in a Champions League final.
Good lord where did you the latter up from
I can remember when they played for us and it was said they played in those finals. A bit easier to believe for Didier Tholot, who was not bad and worked hard, but Eydelie was cowin’ useless, impossible to think he had played in a CL final five years earlier.
Marco Reich won the Polish Cup in 2010.
Tom Wilson for forest, and he helped us get promotion.
Mick Bates for Leeds, Myerscough for villa.
Roger Hynd played in the 1967 European Cup Winners’ Cup Final for Glasgow Rangers against Bayern Munich.
Tony Grealish played in the “and Smith must score” final of 1983, and the replay I suppose.
It would have been fantastic if the players mentioned had done it in a Walsall FC shirt.
Good old Eydelie
Gordon Wills was another 'un , for Linekers mob.
fucking hate Lineker
He was injured and didn’t play in 1961, and had joined us by the time of the '63 final.
He would have played in '61 but suffered an injury in the semi final.
Paul McShane played in that final as well. A short but eventful loan spell with us when Merson was Manager.
Correct Jumbo. My apologies,Wills did miss the final.
My last offering , our most expensive signing when he come 'ere…Trevor Smith lost with Blues.
And he only played a handful of games for us.
He is a random one not exactly on the same level as an FA Cup final but Chris Palmer played in the Oceania Football Conference Championship Final in 2013 coming on as a substitute in the 53rd minute for Waitakere United as they went down 2-1 to local rivals Auckland City. He actually scored 3 goals in the tournament.
Other notable Walsall NZ achievements - I believe Neil Emblen also played and managed Waitakere in OFC Championship games as well as taking Waitakere to the NZ Premiership final on a couple of occasions. Emblen and Bazeley certainly played in the Club World Cup for Waitakere in Japan. Danny Hay may have limped his way through the first Waitakere appearance in Japan as well.
According to Wikipedia Big Bad Brett Angell was coaching in NZ a few years back. Is he still over there?
JImmy Dudley (WBA) 1954 and Trevor Smith (Birmingham City) 1956
Not sure where now. He left Hawke’s Bay United last season after ten years here. Think he might be part of the national set-up for coach training now?
