Time to play some youngsters (I hope some are still at the club), say farewell and threat everyone, club will return. Somewhere, someday. But for now time to pay that penalty. No promotion one season? Relegation later.
On the plus side we probably won’t finish bottom, unless Bradford perform miracles and Salop take the mickey big time.
We were effectively gone when we lost at home to Wimbledon.
First to go should be the huge backroom staff that Keates wasted thousands on. But please NOT Keith Hill as Manager, look how well Rochdale have done since he went!

I have been a fan for 32 years and never felt more despondent about my team. I remember the Kenny Hibbitt seasons but never did Walsall look like falling out of the Football League. This squad would go down from League Two and, surrounded by much bigger clubs and with its natural constituency of supporters alienated by the Jeff Bonser regime, it may never bounce back.

Good post but a lot depends on what happens in the close season. We need a good ,experienced Manager who will need plenty of time to sort out the comings and goings. According to the last programme we have 36 (YES 36 players) on the books including loanees so there will be plenty of goings. I cannot recall how many are contracted for next year but around 25 players will be going so there should be some money available to build a new team. Time is of the essence though so I hope the appointment will be made quickly.

How gamble and mole can sit at their desks tomorrow with any dignity is just beyond me. IF they had a shred of self worth they would resign tonight.

Then you’ve forgotten just how dire it was under hibbitt at times. For sure we have to make the right appointment now or it could be as bad or worse, but it’s not yet

. But any team that can’t get something out of teams that are as dire and desperate as our recent opponents, well …
I’ve only seen two games this season - Bristol Rvrs away and Barnsley - and I actually thought we had a decent team! We beat Rvrs at the death but were probably worth it anyway, on the day: we probably should have beaten Barnsley on the balance of good chances but threw it away (rather unluckily) at the death. That was a game where the ref robbed us of at least one good goal (Osborne). We looked good in that game and I was convinced we would stay up afterwards. But what do I know? (The answer is “nothing” before helpful UTSers point it out 
).
To be honest there isn’t really much point in us being in league 1. League 2 budget, non league players, non league management… we should just scrape around at the bottom of league 2 and accept that under our current regime that is all we can achieve.
We will most likely drop into Non league in the fairly near future but at least we will be a big fish there and hopefully win more regularly
I have not forgotten anything. I was a home and away regular before moving to Australia. I went to 44 of the 46 league games in the 1994-1995 promotion season, which was the one in which Chris Nicholl took over from Kenny Hibbitt. This team is every bit as bad as the worst of Hibbitt’s.
If Walsall drops out of the Football League it is far more likely to do a Stockport than a Lincoln.

If we make the right appointment, there’s no reason why we should drop into non league at all. Our budget is at least mid table league two, our set up likewise. We have the opportunity to clear out a lot of players who have failed us this season, and last.
Of course there is the possibility that we make the wrong choice and are in danger but I don’t think it’s at all inevitable in the way some want to suggest

But we will still have players like Cameron Norman here nxt season. I have to ask the question but is this guy actually a professional footballer? That’s the standard we have signed on long term deals

If that’s what it took to get rid of the current regime and for us to re find the essence of what made our club so special I would absolutely take it.
Such is the stranglehold though I doubt even successive relegations would shift him/them. In fact I’m not sure what would.

I’ve no idea what you do about him apart from hope he comes good. If I was new manager, I’d be looking to sign Devlin up and make him captain. He’s one of the few who has continued to give 100% and be bothered about losing and he’d be good enough a division down. I’d struggle to want to keep many others because they’ve got used to losing and aren’t bothered. Maybe Gordon, perhaps Dobson and, if we got a manager who could control him and integrate him, Ferrier. Otherwise, I’m not too bothered if all of the rest go.

Bonsoir is much more likely to sell if the team is (relatively) successful as he’ll get more cash then.

The open training day should be fun on Wednesday!
Talking of Stockport, 6000 fans turned up there today, and thanks to a last minute goal for Spennymoor against Chorley they now just need a win at Nuneaton on Saturday to win promotion.
Pleased for them.
We’re in a right mess, looking forward to hearing what the muppets at the top are going to do about it. I suspect the silence will be deafening.
