By that logic I suppose Jeff has a place in Southend hence Moussa.....it is complete and utter tosh!

I agree, there is nothing dodgy with this deal it just hasn't worked out for the lad..

Also all the talk around the transfer fee, was it actually ever confirmed what the fee was? did we actually pay the money up front ? or is it staggered ? or even based on appearances etc.

I really wouldn't read to much into this transfer I don't believe for one minute that's its actually cost us the numbers that are being branded around... Walsall Fc would not shell out that sort of cash on an unknown quantity.

We didn't pay £300k for Moussa though.

Phil I genuinely don't believe we paid that for Makris, well up front anyway. We just wouldn't.

[If I remember correctly] It was confirmed at the time by Gamble to be a record transfer for the club as an initial outlay [around £200k], with further fees taking it to £300k.

Given the rarity with which we spend money, and the complete and utter failure of the signing, you really have to ask yourself if everything is as it seems about this transfer.

It was confirmed in the E&S to be a record fee:

E&S wrote:Although the fee is officially undisclosed, Walsall chiefs have confirmed it surpasses the £175,000 club-record.

Even the club's own news story about the transfer confirms it's a record deal: (in the title)

We didn't pay that for Makris, either. It was €300,000, which, at the exchange rate at the time, was approximately £250,000. That would be in instalments, too, depending upon appearances and goals.

Just scored a 20 yard volley to put us 1 nil up against Bradford (and Kevin Toner!).

Now that the play-off dream is all but gone, he needs to be featuring.

We can't go into the summer wondering if he is good enough or not, thereby not knowing if we need strengthening in his position or not. The only way to truly find out is first team match time. He will be here next season, Moussa won't. Sothe change in pecking order this week is baffling. Get him in.

To the above post saying he can't be injured as he is in the development squad. He could have had flu or a minor knock and been left out and this is a game to help get him back up to speed ready for splinters on Saturday!

The thing that everyone is forgetting is that Makris and Butterfield are still very young.
Bakayoko showed early promise but has hardly pulled any trees until this season.
This difficult season might be the making of several players.
I doubt that includes Moussa though.

I have noticed the pies are selling out quicker since we signed Moussa...

Now, to be fair to Pieface, this is another match where their keeper has had a great game.

Birmingham County F.A. ground in Ray Hall Lane, Great Barr, which is our reserve team's home ground.

cheers peda, is it easily accessable ? just wondered if it was easy to just turn up and watch a game without being turned away. I remember in my youth i not only turned up to watch training but actually gave players a lift  mind you walsall council didn't keep to tight a rein on me in those days

Now the season is dead, Makris should start every game. Is he or isn't he good enough? Only one way to find out.
