Better goalscoring rate at least!

How on Earth is one in twenty better than Bakas goalscoring rate this season?

Bakayoko 41 apps 5 goals.

Better rate than one in twenty believe it or not

Bakayoko actually scored some goals THIS season? Seems so long ago, most of us have forgotten.
So sorry about the maths, I'm only an accountant, can't expect much else really.....................

Yep. Not many. But definitely better than one in twenty.

I imagine we are looking more towards the "low hanging fruit" of this list but there we are:

It speaks volumes for the mess that Whitney left behind that I'd definitely take a look at 50% of the players out of contract at Bury (Danns, Humphrey, Ismail), and whilst I don't really know much about him, am open to the likehlihood that Greg Leigh would be an improvement on Luke Leahy.

I'd have Marcus Bean from Wycombe if he were 3/4 years younger. Always liked him at Brentford.

I realise fully we're heading toward the inevitable free-for-all of names, but Nathan Pond is exactly the kind of central defensive partner Guthrie could do with.

Normally I'd say he's a little old but experience is exactly what this team (and Guthrie actually) needs. I wouldn't mind one or two old heads like that bringing some experience and grit to this team. Obviously doesn't have to be Pond exactly, but I think a name like that would be a massive plus.

Trying to be as realistic as possible when looking at the Championship list and my shortlist still has people on it that we couldn't attract!

Jake Buxton would do a job. Jack Hobbs, Byron Webster and Paul Huntingdon are in the 'Not gonna happen' category.

League One - Still loads that wouldn't come to us. Nathan Delfouneso started scoring towards the end of the season, perhaps proving there's still a player in there somewhere? The cynic in me thinks it may well have just be due the fact his contract was running down. Scott Wagstaff was been looked at before but if Zeli and Milan are both coming back then he probably isn't required. Duane Holmes also falls into that category. I'd take 2 or 3 from the names at Oxford, namely Curtis Nelson. Had a big injury last season which is probably why he hasn't signed a contract yet. I'd happily take Ian Henderson, Lyle Taylor and a couple of the Wigan players that are more than solid at this level, Daniels and Perkins especially.

League Two - Where our shopping may well take place, let's be honest. Quite a few ex Saddlers on the list, none of whom I'd be particularly keen to see return. Matt Preston aside maybe?

We’ll be hiring chancers as usual. Forget anyone proven - they’ll need to come to Walsall to get a (second) chance, so forget anyone good. We can’t afford them.

I honestly don’t think that we will, Bonser doesn’t want to kill the golden goose so I think he will give Deano a decent war chest next season. So as not to go as perilous to league 2 next year as we did this.

Steve Davies released by Rochdale.

Still only 29, gets a few injuries but surely that's an affordable experienced league one striker that is needed? 8 goals this season including last minute equaliser v Spurs.

Really?

Last 2-3 years the likes of James O'Connor, Simeone Jackson, Scott Laird, Isiah Osbourne, James Wilson and Franck Moussa have all been signed, indeed Whitney signed most of them (and promptly fell out with most of them...). Oztumer was a little different as he never got a sustained run at Posh.

Anyway all were injured/out of favour at their clubs but they were all proven players at this level and welcomed as signings.

I can't believe the club will think because DK has just managed in non league he'll sign all his players from there. He deserves scope to sign 2-3 proven league one experienced players just like Whitney did as he has half a chance then.

Probably a fish out of water as we have signed some right pond-life over the previous two seasons.

Scott Cuthbert released by Luton, I'd definitely try going for him. Experienced, no nonsense, hard Scottish barsteward :D Perfect partner for Guthrie.

Jordan Cook also released (not saying I'd take him, just saying)

He played in the Conference play-off Final last week, didn’t he? He might be a useful squad member but perhaps not good enough to start.

We won’t be signing Nathan Pond. He has signed for the moneybags that are Salford City.

Wouldn’t be surprised if the other player mentioned in that article is on Deano’s radar. Big target man.

Graham Alexander has taken over there. Just sacked their joint-managers after their third promotion in four years.

Davis has just signed a contract extension with Birmingham this week.

Ginnelly did nothing to impress when he was here. I'd hope we were setting our sights a bit higher.

How lovely that Doncaster have signed somebody already - in May! Wouldn’t it be great if we could announce a couple of decent signings to give us some hope? But then again, we are like one of those mangy cats who wait by your table in Spain waiting for the odd scrap to fall. It would be great for once to sign a player who actually sees us as his preferred (and not his only) choice.
