Rumblings on Twitter that we may be interested in signing Andy Cook from Tranmere. Scored 28 goals this season and 23 the season before.

Forget even the play-off finals. At least let's wait until the FA Cup final has been played before we start getting antsy about not having signed anyone yet.

That would potentially be interesting for me as my name is also Andy Cook. Next season i could be listening to the crowd inviting me either to have sexual relations with their wives, or to fudge off back to Tranmere, depending on how well he does

Heard this today from a Tranmere fan at work too - apparently a really good striker - not sure how we would adjust to League One after two seasons in non-League. Keates will be well aware of him though.

I think we've more chance of re-signing Jordan Cook.

Not being “antsy” (?), just being whimsical. There’s nothing wrong in wanting to see a few early additions.

Gary O'Neil and Scott Golbourne released by Bristol City ... O'Neil's 34 and probably out of our budget but would certainly add experience. Scott Golbourne's a solid Left back, miles better than Leahy, again probably too expensive.

The rumours regarding Andy Cook signing seem to be gathering pace. He's absolutely lethal infront of goal looking at his stats. A very exciting signing if true.

Great record. 28 in 45 has to be good enough for at least 10 to 15 in our league. Good age too 27. Just enough experience to know his arse from his elbow but not so old he can't run anymore.

Just watched his goals from the 16/17 season and he looks impressive. Fantastic with his head and loves to chest a ball coming over the top to finish. Looks strong and the bully up top which we've been desperately lacking. I'd definitely welcome this signing if true (Still doubt it's true tbh)

In that case I'm sure there a few other teams looking at him too!
Let's hope he loves chips and decent training grounds then!

The chips will swing it:

Is Andy Cook really good enough for League 1? Surely he’d need to work on his fitness and weight issues.

Can't see either dropping down, lower championship club will pick them up.

Tony McMahon might be worth a look, released by Bradford this week and vastly experienced right back.

Cook's an interesting one, brilliant goalscoring record in non league and not too old. Quite a few different people saying this so could well happen.

If it does that would be a great capture from non League (so to speak). Someone capable of scoring goals!
Probably wouldn't suit Walsall then (AM mode)
How fabulous it would be to see a Walsall forward scoring goals again...we would truly be spoilt!
But can't see us winning his signature if others have seen his form (Posh anyone?)
6ft at 11 stone 3lbs though? Would need to bulk up a little for the rigours of the 3rd Division?

I don't want Lalkovic anywhere near this club.

He's bang average.

Give your head a wobble.

Simeon Jackson is "bang average".

This is not "bang average"

He isn't bang average. On his day he's a very tricky player. One thing I will say is bang average is his work ethic when helping his full back and his decision making. I'd have him back though.

I liked his enthusiasm while he was here, and I think he has a bit of a soft spot for us, the only thing I didn’t like was the way he seemed to run his knacker’s off with no end product.

In all fairness I wouldn't rate Jackson as bang average I would place him in the bracket below that being 'cack'

Now Lalkovic has had some good games granted , but he has also had many shockers. Also since leaving what has he done ? nothing is the answer. He also managed to have a failed loan spell in the Scottish Pub Leagues.

For me I would much rather see the club try and source some new talent.

Personally hope he's a last resort. I wouldn't be against signing him but I wouldn't be surprised if we can unearth a better player. Same goes for Zeli actually.

Assuming that Joe Edwards signs on for another year as Mr Versatile, Chambers begins to have more of a role 'seeing games out' and playing deeper (just in front of the back four) type 'squad player', I see a gap opening in the middle of the park. With Chesney, Flo and Butterfield released, we definitely need to bulk up numbers but I would love to see us go for Nicky Law who has just been released by Bradford.

He is now 30 but played around 40 games for Bradford last season and knows the league really well. I would liken him to a 'Tom Bennett' type signing that Graydon made back in the day - a steady, seasoned pro who can stroke the ball about with ease.

He is always the type of player who stands out for the opposition when he has played against Walsall and although he would not be cheap, he is at an age where he is unlikely to attract a Championship club.

I know a Bradford fan who tells me that the club had gone very stale last season and he has very little confidence in the football knowledge of the club's owners - both Law and McMahon would be great signings for someone but I wonder whether it would be wise to try Edwards out wide (in the full-back or wide midfield positions) until he regains his confidence to be the combative midfielder that we missed so sorely after his injury against Blackburn.

Edwards is worth his weight in gold due to his versatility but I honestly think that he was originally bought to replace Demetriou while Jase McCarthy was bought in from Southampton as a centre-half. I remember seeing Edwards in his first game in pre-season at Notts County and he was brilliant at right-back!

Even if Edwards returns alongside Dobbo, wouldn't it be great to have competition for places in the engine-room and be able to change shape to a 3? It would also allow Kieron Morris to go back to what he is good at - dribbling at the full-back and whipping in crosses.

In some ways, Oztumer was a dream signing for Whitney; however, the jigsaw pieces never quite fell into place with the physio and seasoned professionals (and strong characters) like Osbourne, Laird and O'Connor knew it...
