Accrington Stanley (A) 26th October 3pm

Backing up the ‘one off’ tag.

Pleased with a point today, clean sheet the most important bit to come out of the match, we’ve needed that…

Yep. The strange thing is about Fleetwood is that it wasn’t just an atypical performance. It was atypical of our defeats. Both of the others centred around the opposition scoring fairly early ,and taking a hold of the game. Fleetwood was completely different. That game is increasingly looking like a total one-off- for both teams.

Fleetwood were brilliant on the night I’m truly baffled why they haven’t picked up more points since :face_with_spiral_eyes:

We were without doubt the better side, Lowe had a brilliant chance to put the game to bed but both of his attempts were blocked, bad miss or good defence?
We didn’t have our shooting boots on today which was a shame as the game was there for the taking.
A goals draw against a team we haven’t traditionally done well on our travels to their place is a decent result.

The Liam Gordon miss in the first half looked terrible. A few had a slight off day e.g. Matt and Barrett but they were not the only two. Although we had 2 good chances they could have scored as well from our usual ability of not properly defending crosses.
I thought their goalie was very good and he could certainly teach Simkin a thing or two about how to deal with crosses coming into the 6 yard box. A definite weakness.
Not too disappointed but if we were a little braver we might have sneaked it.
UP THE SADDLERS

Sadlers thoughts

Elon will be pleased.

Not being a couple of goals in the lead on 70 minutes meant we seemed to get a bit rushed and panicky.

Jellis and Stirk making some strange decisions in particular, Stirk shooting from his own half when he had runners smacked of desperation. We didn’t need to be desperate. We were the better side throughout.

It wasn’t complete daylight robbery. That header they missed in the first half was the definition of a sitter and we had one or two other hairy moments.

Matt was shot by the end. He struggles to do ninety minutes. If the way he plays is integral then we could have done worse than sticking Daniels on up top alongside DJ.

A clean sheet is nice and to see a home side time wasting at 0-0 against us is a complement to what we’ve become.

" The referee was poor." I can’t remember him criticising a ref so explicitly before.

Unfortunately, I think that’s one of the perils of being in the bottom division. It seems to be infested with incompetent refs and beginners who’ve barely reffed any other matches. Was it against Fleetwood, someone said the ref had only officiated 3 previous League games?

Is it also still the case that refs who have poor performances in the higher divisions are “punished” by dropping down the divisions? Because if so, it’s more a punishment for the teams down here that have to put up with their atrocious decisions.

Aye, he wasn’t even poor , he was just downright incompetent. He was obviously against Matt all game, his shirt is now probably 3 sizes bigger with all the pulling. He let a lot go to be fair, but then he goes all whistle happy with 10 minutes to go. Whats that about? Who is assessing these berks?

He let them get away with murder, and helped them play the game their way. He did his best to stop a football match breaking out.

Thought their keeper was very good, save off the freekick was excellent, and Rawson was immense at the back for them. Had it not been for those 2 we might have grabbed the winner. By far the better team but they spawned a couple of great chances too, a fair result imo.

I think that’s about the most pleasing point to take away from today after conceding plenty of late.Even at 3-0 up on Tuesday night we conceded from a set piece which took the gloss off it a little.

A pleasing point

I will elaborate further tomorrow

Listening to both managers, it comes over similar to Chesterfield , when both sides were reasonably happy with a draw.

What happened to Mcentee ?

He was doing some vigorous runs on his own in the warm up, he looked knackered :joy:

Accrington were well organised at the back and seemed to win everything coming into their box.
We won’t win every game but we kept a clean sheet and away from home that’s important.
My clinical advice to the referee would be to get down to specsavers asap because you appear to have a visual issue, I could see Jamma getting dragged around by his shirt from my seat quite clearly throughout the game.

Mcentee, or Crod?

Considering the under-par performances by some players today, Saddler’s reluctance to try something different with our substitutes was disappointing, if not surprising.
If Hall and Adomah are as good as their reputations they would have added much needed quality to our midfield. In a game like this afternoon’s, where the opposition offered little threat, it would have been fascinating to see if they really do have the class to transform our play.
Earing at 60 minutes is ok, but come on let’s try something different in future games.
Saddler spreads the praise around but is miserly giving 12 players in the squad any meaningful time in league games.
Does Lakin offer more than RAM?
