Accrington Stanley (H) 26th April, 3pm

Is anyone sitting in the ‘away end’ I’m so tempted, but don’t want to be in there with just 12 other people all over the age of 80.

It hit me this morning. Had the nervous shits ever since

Trying to impress Jo and Dornans with some positivity ain’t i

Bad news @saddla I believe I posted on both the Harrogate and Newport threads we’d win. I didn’t want to really flag this up because I’m promoting “I was right” about the season going to shit at the moment. So keep it low key if you find the posts of positivity  it will ruin the spin !!

Definitely more than six.

I have seen us promoted 5 times. 88, 95, 99, 2001, 2007.

I know my Dad talked about a promotion when we won at Shrewsbury to get promoted, waiting on QPRs result, think that was in the 60s, and I know Buckley got us promoted late 70s I think, just before my time.

And that is why I am so gutted about what has happened. I’ve seen 5 promotions and the memories live with me every day. It is for the younger (not that young, some now) fans, who haven’t seen it properly before.

I still pray we can do it for them. As a middle aged man, I’d still be like a kid if we could do it.

Automatically?

Ignore me. My mind is all over the place.

We’ll probably win the last 2 and still not go up. That would be typical Walsall

Way too late sorting it out. Should have done it weeks ago. They would have shifted a lot more. Me personally I’d have made it a fiver in and a quid for kids

It was back-to-back promotions in 59/60 and then 60/61. Straight back up in 79/80 after relegation the year before.

Do we also count being re-elected back into the league after being chucked out for a few years?

I was at Shrewsbury in 1961 when we clinched promotion for the second year running. Fantastic atmosphere at the old Gay Meadow ground. Next season started with Home wins against Sunderland and Newcastle. I became a fan for life!

A point to remember about those back to back promotions between 1959/61 was that it was very rare at that time and we were one of the first clubs to do it.

The 92 had only recently split off into 4 divisions and promotion prior to that was restricted to the winners of Div 3 N/S and the top 2 in Division 2 (now Championship).

I think Plymouth were runners-up 5 or 6 seasons on the bounce in the 50s until they finally went up as champions of Div 3 (S).

I think Accrington will sit back and come for a point. Obviously it’s impossible to now until we’ve kicked off but if that’s going to the case then surely it’s the ideal game for DJ. I’ve been an advocate for him not starting games due to the way we’ve ben set up this season but if we’re going to be playing most of the game in their half then he’d be the first name on the team sheet for me

The only question to be asked regarding our rather rag tag bunch of very fourth division and below strikers, isn’t about style of play or any kind of wider attributes such as pace or pressing or any of that sort of thing, its simply in the event that we create 3 or 4 chances in each of the next 2 games, who would you want on the end of them? The answer all day long to that question is DJ. Absolutely not saying he’s the greatest, or he doesn’t miss chances, but we can no longer afford the type of regret felt against Newport.

We’re one hard luck story away from the season being thrown away. Get DJ on the pitch at the same time as some players who can actually pass and cross the ball eg Chang, Hall, Adomah and Asiimwe as opposed to some desperate last 5 minutes of chaotic shelling. ie. do what we should have done 18 games ago.

Tickets seem to be moving behind the goal now, but with the Poundland lower sold out, I wonder if the ticketing system is actually re-selling vacated ST seats, or whether it is double counting those who have relocated?

So a bore draw it is

Sadler to have a fever dream tonight and pick a rogue line-up

                  Hornby

Lakin Williams Daniels Farq Adomah

                 Comley

           Allen McEntee

           Matt Gordon

1-1 - DJ to score 89th minute equaliser after entering pitch illegally, having missed the turn off for West Midlands Safari Park but gets rewarded with a family ticket to Peppa Pig world vice a goal bonus

My ticket was made available for resale once I’d moved. Appeared on the ticket map for about 10 mins before being snapped up!

On the game. I think he goes for Matt and Levi up front. They caused a lot of problems at Donny. The issue was they stayed on for too long. As long as Sadler freshens it up around 60 mins as opposed to 75/80 I can’t see how those two can’t be enough to win us the game.

The key is getting Hall on the ball as frequent and as high up the pitch as possible.

I’d be tempted to play Chang and Lakin behind Hall with Chang acting as a deep lying play maker, helping start out attacks instead of us lumping the ball direct all afternoon!

I think this game will be a bit nuts .

I reckon we will go 1 down due to more defensive nerves . Then drag ourselves 2-1 up by sheer force of will . Then concede straight away . HT 2-2.

Second half we bring on Dave Bamber at the age of 65 and we absolutely blitz them as he wins more headers than Jamma has all season . 5-2 after 60 mins with 2 for the OAP and one for Byfield on as sub .

Accy throw caution to the wind , bring it back to 5-4 as nerves become unbearable .

But as luck would have it the zoo shuts at 4pm and DJ is driving back on the M6 and pops in to see what is happening and comes on on 89 mins and with his first touch , and only his 14th touch of the season , slots home to the delight of the Hilary Street End .

That’s how I see it . But I am 4 pints deep and haven’t eaten yet :
