If by some miracle we do get promoted - we will be a relegation form team who then has to adjust to play at a higher level. It is the equivalent of telling Morecambe that they will be playing in division 3 next year. Wherever we end up next season there is a heck of a lot of work to do and I do not think the current on and off field management can do it.
UP THE SADDLERS
Gods plan. Keep the faith.
I’d take going up and hoping for the best next season.
At least we end the season on a good note and there’s a slim chance of us staying up. Given the current situation, if we fail to get promoted then we could easily end up bang in trouble next season. Especially if Sadler sticks around and builds a team of Comleys, McEntees and Gordons, while getting rid of the DJ, Williams and Chang type players.
Jamma does get fouled granted , but he’s so bloody slow it just looks like two players fighting for the ball.
If he could actually get away from his man or win a header every now and then, I’m sure he would get more fouls. But as he just stands there , refs don’t buy it.
I think that’s the difference. Early in the season he was getting a yard in front and doing some really good work in laying the ball off. Now he’s knackered, particularly since the injury at Bradford, he’s just backing in and hoping for the foul, which he rarely gets.
He can’t jump anymore. There were a few crosses that went in Saturday he would have put away earlier in the season, or at least got a head on it. I think his legs have gone in a big way now.
The fact we have persisted with him so long is a big part of the problem we have had, because our whole strategy is built around him.
Nothing against him, when time catches up with you, there is nothing you can do about it.
Yep he didn’t get close to a single cross, and he Won’t because he’s not moving and attacking the ball.
This is why the DJ situation is so frustrating, as I guarantee you he couldn’t do any worse.
I agree . The fact Matt has played 40 odd games is madness , for months now it looks like he has been running in treacle .
should have been used as an impact player coming on for 30 mins
Another player Sadler has massively over played ..
jellis and Barrett another couple of examples first season in EFL.. looked world beaters pre Xmas and then played and played and played with no breaks or rest and they now look like they wouldn’t get in national league teams .
All on Sadler this for me .. stubbornness beyond belief , a lack of willingness to change and over playing players to the detriment of the team .
The madness of it all is, we brought players in that could do a job and give the players you mentioned a rest.
Barret and Jellis were a huge part of our success in the first half of the season, the combination of those two down the right was deadly. Sadler had to mess that up for a while to get McEntee on the right side.
I watched Jellis on Saturday when he came on. He is giving everything he has got and genuinely looks gutted at what has happened. Trouble is he can’t pass the ball 5 yards anymore, or shoot on target.
Even a crocked, immobile, aged Matt is a better option than Harrison, Gordon and Levi.
Add Johnson and Wheately to those three, and you get what Sadler thinks.
As well as “Even a 37 year old specialist winger, who has never played as a striker in his career before coming here, is a better option than Harrison, Amantchi, Wheatley and Johnson.”
The aim was play offs from below not above.
Summed it up perfectly with that comment
Levi is OK alongside Jamma, but he cannot lead the line (of one).
Harrison probably appeals to Sadler because he runs around a lot.
DJ is not an option because all he does is score goals.
He is limited, his best game is running behind which is where we see him look alright.
Because he’s a big guy we have fallen into the trap of playing him as a target man.
Exactly why it is clear Sadler is not a good manager. He puts players on the pitch to play the same strategy, regardless of who is playing. No thought of trying to play to anyone’s Strengths. I don’t know if he realises but even Matt would be more effective with the ball played into his feet or at least his body sometimes.
Jamma would be a lot better if he could wear a tighter t-shirt that should stop the shirt grabbing! It’s been ridiculous how many times he’s been dragged back this season
It’s also ridiculous how often he fouls defenders. He’ll pull the defenders shirts, they do it back, he backs in like he’s being pulled down. We lose possession. Rinse repeat.
Honestly, I can’t remember the last time he made a genuine challenge for the ball. I’m not saying he is never fouled, but he sets the tone for things with refs from the off, which is why he hardly gets anything, in my opinion.
Absolutely. He’s far more concerned with winning a foul than the ball. It’s infuriating and I have no sympathy for him.
