AFC Wimbledon (A) November 23rd, 3pm

"Underground, Overground, Wombling free;
The Wombles of Wimbledon Common are we"

Popular song written by Mike Batt

Off on our travels where we face AFC Wimbledon at their Plough Lane stadium, built on the site of the now defunct Wimbledon greyhound racing facility - a mere 250 yards from their original Plough Lane base. The ground has a capacity of 9,215 but this can be expanded to around 20,000 depending on future needs.

There is one member of their current team that qualifies as having played for both clubs, and that’s Matty Stevens - he features tonight in their game against Accrington Stanley, and received a yellow card after 37 minutes.

Other players who have graced both teams include George Dobson, Liam Gordon, Charlie Lakin, Rod McDonald (his father played for us), Derick Osei, Robin Shroot, and Rhys Weston.

Current League 2 form for the Wombles looks like this:-

October 19th Notts County (A) Lost 1-0
October 22nd Morecambe (H) Won 3-0
October 26th Port Vale (A) Lost 3-2
November 9th Grimsby Town (H) Lost 0-1
November 16th Barrow (A) Won 1-3 (Stevens scored twice)
November 19th Accrington Stan (H) Drew 2-2

With their late late show against Accrington Stanley (goals in the 89th and 90 +7 minutes) they’ve moved up to 8th place, 4 points behind us and now having played the same number of games.

Prediction? Wimbledon evidently have a sound defence, conceding 2 fewer goals than ourselves (although Fleetwood had a big say in that statistic). On the principle of “Win your home games and draw on your travels” I’d be happy with a 1-1 scoreline…

I’m going 1-2 to the Super Soar-away Saddlers.
Matty Stevens with the obligatory goal against his former employers…

Still suffering from the 1-5 trauma of last season; a point or 3 would help with my recovery. Would be a game I would normally go to as I have Wimbledon supporting friends but can’t make it this time due to family wedding. I never feel we do that well against the (real) Dons but i’m going for a win as it must be about time we did!

Tough game this - we have been very poor on the last 2 visits. A point would be welcome.

By the way, the thread title has it as a home game.

A draw will do. 1-1

Great preview welsh .
I fancy our chances after the tough game they’ve had this evening.
A fresh confident saddlers to win 2-1

Wimbledon were awful tonight for 89 minutes, then a goalkeeping howler let them back in it, then a equaliser in the 98th minute.

A win Saturday could potentially give us a 7 point gap over 7th place, with two games in hand :astonished:

They’re a decent team but probably more play offs than top 3 contenders.

Not sure if they were missing players on internationals but 2-0 down to Accy at home before the very late comeback.

I fancy a win here. 1-2 with Lowe and Jellis yet again on the scoresheet.

They only named 6 substitutes tonight - perhaps they have a long injured list?

Only? That’s over half a team! Big change since the sub used to be AN Other!

We owe these a thorough beating after the humiliation last season when Fall missed a couple and Daniells gave them a couple and the Natzi stewards were over the the top with strip searches entering the ground.

I remember saying similar to my Grandad when it went up to 3 subs, and he replied with “There were no subs when I started going!”

He’s gone now, unfortunately, but it brought back one of many memories from the many hours I spent sitting with him chatting about football.

Great preview Welsh.

This will be a tough match. Hoping for revenge against a side that gave us a thrashing at their place last season. Infact I think they were the only team last season to do the double over us.

If Accy can nearly win there though then I think we can pull this one off. I’m going for 1-0 to the Saddlers with Tommy Simkin proving his worth as man of the match and Lowe with the goal.

A very tough game this. Have every faith the lads can win it, but if not a draw would still be a very good result.

An incredibly tough fixture. The Cherry Red Records Arena is never an easy place to go and for me over the two fixtures last season we played against them last season they were the best side we played. I’d snap you hand off, quite literally, for a point.

We owe them a good hiding after last season.
It’s going to be a tough game but the Walsall team of last season is a very different one to this in form team of ours.

You seem to have taken over the mantle from AncientmoaninOldgit4eva
Actually, I miss the miserable old sod

I just think it’s a tough game away from home but if any Walsall team can beat them this one can !
