Any attendance figures for this?
Most important question, where did McEntee play, Midfield or Defence?
How did the new keeper look?did him and barrett do half each?
Right centre half
I reckon we would be a pretty decent side if you didn’t have this crazy system of goals- points -promotion in place .ridiculous .
We’d be pushing for a top 3 place if kilometres ran was a column in the league.
This might be worth a read, to demonstrate what I’m trying to get across:
The stats on Bergkamp are particularly relevant.
For context, I’m not comparing any Walsall striker to Dennis Bergkamp!
Macken was really good at that. Played in a rubbish team and had been a prolific scorer for most of his career but legs had gone. Still did a good job holding the ball up and young lads coming through like Paterson and Nicholls could do the running.
Matt can do that but it’s then imperative you surround those CF with genuine pace and players who can score.
Filling your squad with four strikers who can hold it up o.k but have little scoring threat simply isn’t the way to get promoted so guy who’s hardly scored in league football was a strange choice of trialist today.
We’ve not had any lightening quick players for a long time.
To me he’d be a Matt type striker. Who else have we got who has his presence (Faal did this, to some extent last season)?
DJ is currently out of the picture.
DJT won’t be available until January.
Gordon is a willing runner.
We need at least 2 more strikers and Sadler has said that.
I don’t have an issue with Moore joining the squad.
Ironically, according to Football stats, Danny Waldron has only had one goalscoring season and did little in terms of goals at Alvechurch and Leamington.
I 100% agree that we would need a Wakeling type signing too though or a quality loanee as well.
jjunior9 i get where you are coming from not all strikers are getring goals like Berkamp and Halland and Kane.
But as we already have Flash who can do the same thing off running about closing down defenders and getting assists for other players, do we really need another one or a stiker who knows where the net is.
We have Matt who will get probably maybe 10 goals
Gordon i am hoping he comes good
And we need another 2 quality stikers.
So if our defence says for example concends 2 goals…with stikers who can score will drag us back into the game.
And i know there is an old saying of you can’t score a goal without someone creating a chance for you…But i am hoping our midfielders can do that.
Adomah played a season up front for Villa
To be fair I haven’t clicked on the article but Bergkamp played with Ian Wright and Thierry Henry, and Firminio had Salah and Mane banging the goals in.
It’s alright having a selfless striker but to me if you are playing two strikers, at least one of them has to score some goals. Bergkamp and Firmino scored their share to also.
It could be the fabled unavailable “away” kit as technically we are the away side
Very enjoyable day out, thought we looked strong all over the pitch in both halves. Looking forward to the season. Thought we had a variety of chances created.
I know this isn’t the right thread but I didn’t want to start a new one just to ask this.
Has anyone bought tickets for Tamworth? You have to buy them on the Tamworth website I believe, do you buy them and collect them on the day? I don’t fancy them being posted, no guarantee they will come on time.
Cheers.

Why are we (again) relying on our midfield to do the scoring. We had the luxury of Hutch doing that for us last season, but he’s (sadly) gone now and we’re left with an aging Matt and a very out of form Gordon. Now we have to deal with the DJ situation, how much worse can it get for the Walsall FC forward line?
BB and Trivela must know how dire this is, surely?
Impressed with Lakin looks a great box to box midfielder, the trialist at RWB looked to have a touch of class about him.
Great, thanks mate.
