How about floodlight failures? There was the notorious one at Burnley, one at Leeds and another at home to Stoke that I remember. There must have been others?
And on a larger scale, regular power cuts in the mid-70s.

I was there at Leeds , remember Phil Masinga coming on for an extra time hatrick R.I.P
And also at the Stoke game when they turned the music really loud on the tannoy system as the fans started taunting each other and they were worried it may.kick off with the clayheaded bastards
Yes - the lights conveniently failed just as we were really getting on top. The break back in the dressing room allowed them to regroup or else I reckon we would have gone in to win that game.
When Northampton played at the County Ground?
When the ball went out of play and went miles over the cricket pitch!
Lot’s of days off school because there was no heating
And lots of games being played at strange times. I’m sure I remember Wolves playing a League Cup semi final, or maybe it was a quarter final, at 2 o clock on a Tuesday afternoon. And of course we played Wrexham in our first Sunday match, and such was the novelty that over 9,000 turned up, more than double our previous gate. Strikes, bombs, candles, glam rock, big shoes, big trousers, entry to something called the Common Market (not heard of it in years so I don’t think it was very important), yes they were interesting times. And two General Elections in 1974.
…not forgetting Tone’s ‘prayer mat’. He may not have got away with that now.
I seem to recall, the lights went off a couple of times in that game and while we were kicking our heels, someone had the bright idea of broadcasting a BBC live match commentary from another game, over the Tannoy.
Remember when Radio Birmingham who had only transmitted local football stuff on FM made it available on AM.
Not many people owned FM radios.
I used to listen mostly on Medium Wave for a few years. Was it 206? Which was down by Luxembourg if memory serves. Radio 4 was on Long Wave and then Radio 2 had that frequency, or the other way round. Radio 1 and Radio 2 broadcast the same programmes for part of the day, in the early days anyhow.
Listening to Medium Wave was a lottery after about 1900 hours. Trying to listen to John Peel (on 247 MW) was hard work, constant manipulation of the damned radio to try and catch any radio waves that were floating around the bedroom.
Kids today, eh? Dunno they’re born.
I think you are right Fish , maybe it wasn’t music just remember them turning it up loud because of the goading going on between us and them and they feared it might spill over onto the pitch in the blackout .
Absolutely right Andy , remember Lightbourne missing a couple of chances and Leeds looking very edgy , me and the guys commented as soon as the lights went off they had done it deliberately because we were so much on top .
An old an once told me that William Joyce , Lord Haw Haw,s Nazi propaganda broadcasts were on 208mt. The Luxembourg frequency, that was before we hung him.
I wonder if the reception was better for his show than when I tried listening as an 11 or 12 year old to Tony Prince (The Royal Ruler ) and Kid Jensen back in the early 70s.
At one point radio One used to finish at 7 on a Sunday after the charts which I seem to remember were 1 st out on a Tuesday. Radio 2 used to takeover and sing something simple came on. A few years later Annie Nightingale had a request show which is where I first heard once in a lifetime
Always got a sinking feeling when I heard her voice. Weekend over.
Radio 1 used to finish at 7 every evening in the week, and then at 10 it would start again with John Peel for a couple of hours. I think it was towards the end of the 70s, maybe 1978 or 1979 that R1 started broadcasting its own programmes on weekday evenings. Richard Skinner rings a bell, and for a time Janice Long.
I remember Annie Nightingale doing her request show, and at some point she did it on Sunday afternoons, 2-5, or maybe 3-5. Homosapien by Pete Shelley, and The Worm Song by The Yobs are a couple of songs I remember her playing quite often.
Alexis Korner had a show on Sunday evening back in the early 80s, my introduction to African music, and also Cajun and Quebecois music. Brilliant show and he had one of the best radio voices ever.
Do you remember fish heads by Barnes and barnes
I do and I think her show might have been the only times I’ve ever heard it - until three minutes ago when I found it on YouTube. Thanks for the reminder.
Was that the roly poly ones?
