Anyone Remember?

Every chance as I’m sure that was the intention. A kind of ladies haven away from the male dominated, curse laden world that was the main bar.

Some pubs were proper big imposing buildings. And no wonder. The bar and lounge operated as completely separate worlds in many pubs even with different toilets in many. Then the aforementioned snug and outdoor. Then many had a separate function room. Discos, wakes, wedding receptions all in another big bit of the boozer - sometimes upstairs.

As council workers we was in there from 11.00 am on a friday until around 4.00pm there used to be a rather portly lady called Sue that used to rustle up burgers and chips all day

Yes was talk of it being took over and modernised before the youth got in and set the place on fire :see_no_evil:

Colin Gibson… was speaking with him yesterday. As we all are not a massive fan of Mr Bonser.

I always thought it was a fitting end to the guy i was talking about Brian Sumner, because he ended his days in there.

I spent most of my working days around the delves, when we modernised talke rd and the other surrounding areas, there used to be a 25 stone security bloke called joe i think? used to live on there, you couldn’t see the saddle when he rode his bike :joy: there was a nice girl called Deb who moved to tame street east and married a guy called Milton and she had a sister that lived on foolbrook rd called mandy i think?

When was that Chunk?

I would say around 1983-85 ish? we used the room at the back with the pool table

I’d long gone by then. I was a regular in there before I was old enough to be in there :joy:. Used to go out with the gaffers daughter when I was 16/17

I know what you mean, i went with the gaffers daughter from the wheel inn in Walsall wood when i was 17, i just used to help myself to the pumps
I remember having one drinking session in the Tiger one friday, with a guy called Morris Shrivens, he lived opposite, and one of our carpenters had had one to many,so i elected to follow him home to make sure he got there ok.
Well he had one of those tipper lorries where the wing mirrors stuck out about 2ft lol, and as we reached the island at the boundary hotel there were about 4 kids standing on the curb waiting to cross.
And as the guy went round the island he hit every one of them with the mirror knocking them all to the ground :man_facepalming: :joy:

Just about to post the same. The out-door was where your bought your beer to take home from the pub.

I remember the off -licence in Walsingham Street (Chuckery) had beer pumps. My Grandad used to get an Alpine pop bottle filled with draft Highgate mild. This was late 60’s early 70’s.
